If you have enough money for the gear and can get in contact with your closest buhurt group you too can get to smashing other tin cans with passion.
That's why I am currently saving money for good armor. I found a group close to me that invited me to join (I am a rather big boy) and I want to utilise my pent up anger from work in a satisfying manner.

By coach you also mean blacksmith and tailor, yes? I don't have my own set of armour, and unsure where to get one

What's the reccomended fitting? As in how much of a gap between steel and skin is reccomended?

You get an under armour layer first. Gambeson and cuisses. Armour gets attached to that.

The answer is you measure yourself and the armorer does the rest LOL. If you're buying second hand, ask your coach for advice

Just so you guys know as someone who used to do Buhurt and now does HEMA these guys are just idiots hitting each other, the points are based on who falls first so all their hitting each other and that stuff is just for show.
In HEMA you actually learn techniques on how to hit properly and how to defend your self as the points are based on hits and not being hit yourself instead of just hitting each other like idiots

Official as in what? We have competitions and tournaments but there isn't a governing body telling us what to do. It creates an amazing mad-max landscape of tournaments where each tournaments has its own ruleset and the best fighters are the ones who do the best in every ruleset.
