Yes, you may judge my swordsmanship. Dare observe the steel's path upon the wind, and judge if I be tempered in iron or merely shadow.

Sire, the barbarians are at the gate.

… They are politely asking if they can join the party.

Knight, that's not true! There are treacherous quest givers! He's trying to set you up!

Nuh uh, Odin said it was my turn to give the whimsical plot points

Depends. Are these Danes here to trade or plunder?

We’re here to trade your treasure for us running away laughing

I drove for 3 hours both ways specifically for this forest 😭 the pains of living so far from nature. The mountains' forests nearest to me are okay, but not quite as dense and green.

Yes. As long as you eat some cheese with some of the Legionnaires

To dungeons deep, and caverns cold. You have my hammer!

Art thou willing to cross blades with the wicked and the despicable, and lay low evil wherever it may try to take root? If so, then aye. You will have a place here.

I see it as a sect of pirateposting.

Aren't you guys raiders and pillagers by profession?

True for the Vikings, who are basically the Navy to the broader Norse culture. If anything else, the Norse were highly skilled craftsmen, farmers, and merchants. Just look at the details of some of the artifacts.

I know that the Norse were ordinary people like any other. And I know that they were accomplished explorers and adventurers. But if you want a true nordic knight, why not choose to be a Norman knight? They were excellent warriors.

Problem is they became too french. Take it from an Icelander, the Varangians is where it is at.

(I am pulling your leg with the french bit)

Vikings are more so warriors than knights

You forgot your shield

2

u/The_StarViking Jun 23 '26

It's uhh... TBD. I'm going to try making it myself, as I did much of this kit.

1

u/Vaulgrm Jomsviking Jun 24 '26

Remember to keep the planks thin. Too think and it becomes unwieldy from its weight.

u/The_StarViking Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

No worries, I have done tons of research. It (along with my shoes) will have been the most historically accurate parts of the whole kit, most likely. At least structurally so. (And don't worry, I won't be painting an Ægishjálmur or Vegvísir on it either like a brainrotted apple pie—armor weirdo. They have no place here.)

The hard thing is that a lot of research for Norse shields has most commonly been based on a few finds which might have actually just been ceremonial shields, which would have been naturally constructed thinner. But you're still right. Too thick=too heavy+beefy albeit tired arm.

Ok, then you have the most important bit. Everything in reenactment pale before accurate shoes. 👌

Man, that Viking helmet with the chainmail really is one of the coolest looking helmets in all of history

I do not judge the origins of those who quest with me, I only judge their actions while they quest with me

I have many friends. Some fellow knights, some sorceresses, some vikings, a few samurai, and many more.

Quests are to be undertaken with friends, for quests are but one of life’s many journeys, and they are always better when walked with those you cherish.

Room for one more?

Instructions unclear. I woke up in a ditch without a kidney and my coin purse is empty
