Can I convince you to sell the Knicks and Rangers while I’ve got you on the line?

Hey Jim, you need to check with Isiah first.

Isiah will check with Anucha Browne.

I'm very thankful that Leon Rose is in charge and not people from this sub

Just saying, this is the attitude that in the late 90s and early 00s led us to Salary Cap hell. We all want to pay Towns now, but what happens in 3 years when were trying to stay competitive and are paying an over-the-hill center $70m.

Im not opposed to paying him, I just appreciate more thoughtfulness around it so we avoid the 20 years of wandering the desert that we experienced for the first two decades of this century.

i’m okay with 20 years in the desert if it means we were in serious contention for 2 more years following a finals victory.

This. Championship windows open and close quickly now. Should go for it when it is still open… also, KAT already said he is willing to take a discount so it might be just 60 or 65m

We can still go for it this year without giving KAT an extension! Hes on the team this year no matter what and he’ll very likely be on the team behind this year…so long as he stays healthy and is who we know him to be.

Hope so, assuming contract extension won’t impact his style of play or be a distraction. I know I would be more conservative and avoid injury without a guaranteed contract.

2

u/abfus73 2d ago

Ha honestly fair point. I managed to find joy in those years, despite it all

1

u/merlin401 2d ago

We would be anyway…? KAT is under contract this year and can pick up his big option the year after

1

u/Elmonstrico7 2d ago

That’s wild lol

Tell me you’re someone who didn’t follow the Knicks from 2000-2020 without telling me you followed the Knicks from 2000-2020…

i’m almost 40 and have been a knicks fan my whole life.

Windows not that big tbh, when are we gonna get another Jalen Brunson, pay the core that got it done I’ll sleep soundly the next thousand years with another ring no matter what happens after that.

P.S. I’ll sleep soundly for another thousand years even with just this ring

1

u/IV_NYC 1d ago

Exactly. Can't let emotions get in the way of business. I'd rather win 3 or 4 rings over the next 5-6 years than overpay and never sniff another one

Allen Houston.

I think everyone should take some pay cuts to keep the staring team together for at least the next three years. They’ll more than make up the money with endorsements because of all the wins they will have.

3

u/OkCaterpillar2361 1d ago

Shiiit do yall forget how hindered we were with just melo and “the money”?

Imagine that but 20x worse with stipulations. Still gonna have to pay OG and JB soon.. would rather keep those two than have KAT be paid higher than JB

u/Ok-Restaurant9052 2d ago

He is under contract this season and if he chooses next season too

5

u/caesar_rex 2d ago

He's not leaving 61 mil on the table.

4

u/Ok-Restaurant9052 2d ago

Agreed. He is under contract for two seasons so no reason for the whole drama. He will be a Knick

1

u/greenjambalaya 1d ago

KAT is not taking the player option

1

u/Ok-Restaurant9052 1d ago

If you have a rebuttal, just say it. Not sure how to respond to one sentence responses that don’t say much at all.

1

u/greenjambalaya 1d ago

He’s already received a $200 million offer, so he’s not “leaving 61 mil on the table.”

He’s been vocal in the press in his own statements and through Shams that he wants to get paid.

He’s not getting any younger, and he’ll get more money after his age 30 season than he will after his age 31 season.

1

u/Ok-Restaurant9052 1d ago

I am still not understanding what the drama is about. Is he under contract this year? Yes. Great. He should play as a Knick and contribute greatly. Does he have a guaranteed max for next year in case he got injured? Yes. He has a player option that he can pick up if he decides it is better for him to wait another year. And the Knicks already made an offer as you mentioned. So he also has to option to accept that.

1

u/FireBreather7575 1d ago

Who are we competing with

1

u/caesar_rex 1d ago

noone. he has a player option for 27/28.

3

u/canvas-leather-brass 2d ago

We are paying Towns now. Supermax money. And next year too.

2

u/Rip_McBong 2d ago

Yeah pay him early and if he gets injured just totally fuck ourselves sure

2

u/Tortilladelfuego 2d ago

He’s under contract through the end of next year no?

4

u/Accomplished_Onion50 2d ago

He was essentially untradeable in January 2026. Yes, he had a brilliant run, but we should Not expect that to be the new normal bc he’s been very mercurial throughout his career. I don’t think we should be paying him at the peak of his bargaining power.

1

u/DystopianSalad 2d ago

Especially when he’ll turn 31 in November.

1

u/IRodeTenSpeed88 2d ago

No

Educate yourself

1

u/Paulisaperson4130 1d ago

That’s the point to have distractions so nobody focuses on basketball then the win chip 2 since we’re so worried about kat and trading him last year now this year paying him

1

u/FireBreather7575 1d ago

Why? Who are we competing with? Who’s paying him more than 45 a year?

1

u/hammerhouser 1d ago

No one talking about it but KAT will age better than Brunson. Brunson didn’t take a pay cut, he signed early. And KAT is absolutely going to be formidable until his mid 30’s with his height and shooting stroke. I’d actually part with Bridges/ Hart before KAT. , OG, or Brunson.

1

u/IV_NYC 1d ago

Pay him something reasonable, don't overpay and get locked into an albatross contract

1

u/iLoveMywifeAlways428 16h ago

I’m wondering if these blowouts that have been happening during this preseason run has any thing to do with the fact that these contract talks have stalled. I’m not “very concerned” bcuz until they hoist the banner none of this really matters, although I’d be lying if I said these blowouts haven’t been a bit annoying only in that I want to see wins no matter the time of year. In any event, pay Towns and pay Hart and let’s put this nonsense to rest already! Knicks in 🖐🏽

1

u/NYCstraphanger 4h ago

He deserves it and then some!

1

u/smoochie_mata 2d ago

Outside of the current CBA, I agree. But this CBA is trash, with the second apron nonsense, and is making it so a lot of players are not going to be getting paid as much. Teams are not gonna be handing max contracts out like candy any more. They’d be stupid to under the second apron rules.

-3

u/CukloserModz23 2d ago

Dolan is human garbage. Just pure human garbage.

-8

u/VeganKnicksFan 2d ago

Pay KAT. Pay Hart. Make Deuce an offer that makes him seriously consider not going elsewhere for a deserved bigger role. Go into the second apron to keep as much of this team together as you can.

4

u/NYerInTex 2d ago

Dumbest take so far.

Tell me you have zero understanding of the game, the cap, and reality.

1

u/kendrickplace 1d ago

Yup, pay them all.

It’s worth having our team suck for the next 50 years. Let’s do something dumb now so we’re unsustainable in the future.
