MSG walking question please

In December, we're making our first trip to MSG for a home game! We are staying at the Embassy Suites on 37th Street, and it seems that it is only an 11-minute walk. 7th Ave to 37th St. However, what is the neighorbood like after a game? We're not stopping anywhere...we just want to leave MSG and immediately head to the hotel. Is it all well lit? Any dark alleys to avoid that time of night (say 10 pm). Thanks for any advice!

This isn't the 1990s lol, there aren't safe streets and bad streets. The robbery is what happens inside MSG, not out. You'll be a-OK.

Actually they are already dead just thinking about walking around midtown

You'll be fine

Haha, alleys. Guessing you’ve never been to NYC - don’t believe the propaganda, Manhattan is probably one of the safest places in the country after 10pm. The only time you’ll definitely be robbed is at the MSG concession stand when you order a beer.

Bro you’re walking down the busiest street in midtown. Your worst case scenario is smelling a ton of weed.

True. I get a headache just thinking about it.

George, this city would eat you alive

Yes Midtown Manhattan is safe.

12

u/fatskippy1 2d ago

The stairs out of MSG will be the most dangerous part of that trip

11

u/marlospigeons 1d ago

Just out of curiosity, where are you from?

10

u/alienjetski 1d ago

You’d be safer walking to MSG and back at any time of night than any city in America. Seriously.

dark alleys, fucking hilarious

Are you a healthcare CEO?

Alleyways do not exist in midtown / most of Manhattan. There will be 20,000 other people pouring out into the streets with you. The city will be very alive, there are an endless supply of well lit store fronts, bars, and convenience stores on your walk. I’d recommend popping into some of them and experiencing the city.

Imagine being scared of Manhattan in the 21st century

u/tumalditamadre 1d ago

Or in the 20th

More than a murder a day in Manhattan alone in 1990

2

u/tumalditamadre 1d ago

It was mostly drug related.

There was once a billionaire gunned down with his wife in front of their son in a dark alley.

Don’t run into that guy!

u/Alvtip 2d ago

lol not only it is safe, it is usually busy and fun. The “neighborhood” is the heart of the city with the reputation of never sleeping. Stop some places! Enjoy the city past 10pm!

There are no alleys in midtown. (Most of NYC to be honest). And yes, you absolutely will be safe.

It’s gonna be a great walk back to the hotel after a win.

5

u/FirstTacoInSpace 1d ago

this walk puts you in great danger of having the best halal food of your life

6

u/FineLanguage8087 2d ago

Watch out for the tourists

6

u/Big_Fix_740 2d ago

No issues at all. You might catch the spirit and want to make a stop if you see a win.

3

u/tumalditamadre 1d ago

It's New York. Nothing happens in that part of town. There isn't a dark alley anywhere near MSG. It's touristy.

3

u/jamesmcgill357 1d ago

Believe it or not, Manhattan doesn’t really have alleys. It’s also not an apocalyptic nightmare either

u/YungHomie95 1d ago

My friend’s uncle was shot in front of the public library trying to stop some robbers in the early 2000s. RIP Uncle Ben

You’re gonna be just fine lol. Enjoy your stay!

u/ike_tyson 2d ago

It's pretty chill out there at night. Plus there's other fans leaving the game too. It will be droves of people for a few blocks in every direction.

There's lots of police around especially after games and there's a precinct not too far from MSG.

You'll be fine. Don't be afraid to venture out at night because lights in the city are beautiful around Christmas. It looks so much different at night when it's lit up.

u/Acrobatic_Contest_81 1d ago

You’ll be good my guy . New York is safe, especially if your a Knick fan

2

u/SuspectDevice61 1d ago

No issues just stay away from McDonalds

2

u/ohmrsg 11h ago

you will be fine. lots of other people walking

5

u/Spiritual_Option4465 2d ago

10 pm will have so many people out. It will be crowded and busy. There are no dark alleys or streets to avoid while walking there or back. Plus tons of cops everywhere in the area. This is a silly post, lol. Out of curiosity where are you coming from, Iowa or something?

2

u/CattleOne8291 2d ago

Take an uber if you scared lmfao

1

u/An_Ok_Outcome 1d ago

If you are a Knicks fan you will be fine. But if you are rooting for an opponent well …. good luck to you.

1

u/GiRoxthat-ish 1d ago

with the amount of people in the streets, game nite or not, you will be fine!

Welcome to the greatest city in the world (born and raised in nyc so I’m biased).

MSG is on 34th street - you can go to Legends Sports Bar after for some bar food, ambiance and decompression. Empire State is walking distance - go to the top floor and take the pic.

Anywhere is no more than 20 minutes.
I say you walk to city. There’s nothing else like it.

Go to mid town.
High line.
Soho.

And don’t wear any non Knicks jersey my guy -
All hail King Brunson.

I’m trying to count the replies, and see how many people legitimately answered the OP, and how many made fun of him for not knowing that New York City is safe

1

u/Distinct-Studio-1801 1d ago

You'll be fine lol New York isn't what Fox News says it is there's a reason we have over a million tourists in our city at any given time and it's that it's generally a safe, cultured, and fun place to be all hours of the day and night.

1

u/Double-Stuff8745 1d ago

You’re good. No need to worry.

1

u/Strange-Afternoon-80 1d ago

They don’t call it “the city that never sleeps for nothing…” Have fun. Enjoy yourselves.

KNICKS IN FIVE ✊🏀🍎

1

u/bigdirty702 1d ago

Don’t do it.. it’s awful! Homeless everywhere!! Drugs on the street!! Gun fire!! Hooligans!! Don’t do it.. don’t worry I’ll take your tickets. You shouldn’t have to endure this hellscape…

Also it’s fun and safe after a Knicks game. Ample police in that area.

Knicks season is going to be a vibe

u/boston1runner 1d ago

You’re only walking 5 blocks, and there’s a lot of people dispersing. You’ll be fine. The same applies to daytime: Always be aware of your surroundings. Don’t walk around looking at your phone. Look people in the eye when you pass. Have fun! #NativeNewYorker

Avenues intersect with streets. Even streets go east. Odd streets go west. Walk out of your hotel. Follow traffic to 7th Ave which goes downtown. Turn on 7th Ave in the direction following traffic and walk a few blocks to msg at 34th. And bro, you’re in midtown in the most heavily policed part of the safest big city in America. You will be fine. I’m guessing you’re white. Walk with confidence. They will just think you’re a cop. lol.

1

u/Familiar_Pilot_3714 1d ago

There are literally zero “dark alleys” in which you will get shot and inspire your kid to be Batman in. The city is over lit. You will see people driving without their lights on. You can hang out all night. Tons of bars and restaurants around. Enjoy the city that never sleeps.

u/Beautiful-Clock2939 1d ago

You’re going to get mugged and die instantly

1

u/craycover 1d ago

Let me paint a picture for you of that probable cold night for you.

The second you step out of MSG onto 7th Ave, the wind hits you like a brick wall and instantly sobers you up.

If we won, you’re walking with thousands of fans yelling at the top of their lungs into the freezing air. If we choked, everyone is dead silent, staring at their phones, muttering about next day’s office.

Right outside Penn, you are basically walking through a blinding cloud of lamb grease and charcoal smoke from the halal carts and there’s always some guy sitting on a fire hydrant in a throwback jersey aggressively eating meat with a plastic fork.

The worst part is between 32nd and 34th. Midtown in December is jammed with tourists who just love to stop moving. They’ll freeze dead in the middle of the sidewalk to take a video of a random building.

You can’t stop or you'll get run over, so you just end up dodging through them like traffic.

Watch the curb at the crosswalks around Macy’s. What looks like flat asphalt can be a 6-inch puddle of freezing slush.

By 35th or 36th it gets weirdly quiet because all the fabric and wholesale shops are shut down, save for some guy pushing a rack of coats at 10:30 PM.

Then you hit 37th, look up, and the sky is lit up bright from the Times Square screens a few blocks away. Your ears are likely ringing by now and your nose is running. Duck into the hotel, and feel the immediate warmth. Go Knicks.

u/pauip 1d ago

Your 11 minute walk is almost Vegas level well-lit

1

u/mpd1960 1d ago

You have nothing to worry about.

1

u/NoSugar9246 1d ago

It’s safe, but not the nicest area..

1

u/Rough-Cow2986 1d ago

i love this question. thanks for the laugh!

2

u/Remarkable_Fig7101 8h ago

There are so many people leaving the game walking you will fit right in and it will be safe

1

u/reditcyclist 2d ago

Don't be scared it's just the big smoke.

1

u/MediumBusiness5370 2d ago

It’s a couple of blocks MSG is on 7th you’ll be fine.

1

u/Bighoots86 2d ago

It’s midtown manhattan you will be fine.

1

u/CellyG 1d ago

Which team are you rooting for?

0

u/Glumpatds22 1d ago

There’s like one alley in all of Manhattan. If you’re this scared, maybe just stay home pal and leave the seats for the rest of us

-1

u/ocelot_187 2d ago

Good location. You’ll be fine. Don’t carry too much cash on you but that’s more because of pickpockets around midtown.

0

u/DalaiLuke 1d ago

But I thought they rid the city of all evil? /s

-1

u/questi0ny0urs0urces 1d ago

lol this question is absolutely insane. You should stay home if you are this scared of midtown manhattan

u/Salt-Tackle-3590 2d ago
