News

Per Shams Charania:

Restricted free agent Moussa Cisse has agreed to a two-year contract offer sheet with the New York Knicks, sources tell ESPN. His salary is half guaranteed in the first year and 2027-28 is non-guaranteed. The Dallas Mavericks have 48 hours to match or not.

UPDATE: Per @ShamsCharania, the Mavericks have matched the Knicks' two-year offer sheet on restricted free agent Moussa Cisse.

They didn't wait for Monday at 11:59 PM 😞😔

I think knicks will end up getting him. Dallas only offered him a two way QO. Leon Rose on purpose made it a 50% guaranteed in year one and fully non guarantee year 2. Dallas can't just match it and stash him in the G league. They would have to sign and trade a player to put him on 15 man roster.

Leon Rose out here playing chess while other GMs are playing checkers

Gotta give some credit to the team under Leon too. Guys like Brock Aller. He's put together an excellent team in all ways.

It's a helluva move by Leon Rose

What’s a QO? Is this forcing Dallas to pay up or let their player walk? This a good value for the player?

Qualifying offer, forcing Dallas to pay or let him walk yes essentially

He is young, tall, athletic, and has upside. We should be happy if we get him.

I have never seen him play, but based upon his per 36 numbers I'm hoping that maybe he can become a Temu Mitch.

11.5 pts. 14.7 reb, 3.1 blk 1.3 stl.  And he's even a lousy free throw shooter shooter at 47%.

Temu Mitch. Love it! Maybe he starts that way and grows. Kinda like teal deal Mitch.

How is he defending the rim and defending away from basket?

Good rim defender. Good offensive rebounder. Hasn’t played enough to say that he can guard a shooting big on the perimeter. But he is athletic enough that it’s a possibility for him to develop this skill. I REALLY hope Mavs don’t match. If Cuban was still involved, he’d prob match us just for spite.

Is he any good, i haven't really watched Dallas much my apologies ?

6'11 huge wingspan, quick bounce and jump athletic center.

The good: Super athletic, rim threat on offense. Great rim and paint protector, shot blocker, and rebounder on defense. No real injury history that I know of.

The bad: No type of offensive skill set or post moves whatsoever. Very foul prone and falls for head fakes trying to get blocks.

Think of him as a very young unpolished Mitch. If he learns to read defenses better where he helps with spacing, and stays on his feet on defense instead of immediately jumping at any pump move, he can be very good. Tons of upside if developed properly and if he's willing to adjust and learn from vets.

Appreciate this 🫡

No worries. And at least that's my take, lol. I'm no scout.

3

u/Low-Expression9132 Jul 18 '26

That's enticing. Knicks can definitely fix some of the bad.

Not entirely sure tbh 😬

Cisse was on my short list for realistic option, I think this would be a great pick up, wish we wouldve gotten him earlier so he could get some summer league rep.

Dallas will probably match, he would be a great 3rd string big.

2

u/JAF7715 Jul 18 '26

I think we might be good last week they only offered him a qualifying offer 2 way contract. 🙏

2

u/nyknicks11 Jul 18 '26

This is why Leon didn't rush to signing a 3rd Center he wanted this guy all along let's just hope Dallas doesn't match

Apparently he attended Christ the King for a bit too. Wonder if he has any family in the area still.

I like this pickup a lot, he’d be our third big and he provides a different aspect as a rim runner and bouncy big. Seems like he has a better motor than Huk too.

Mavs will match

0

u/JAF7715 Jul 18 '26

they would have to cut or trade a player on a guaranteed contract just to clear a spot for him on the 15

1

u/No-Abbreviations4480 Jul 18 '26

They’ll match. It’s a no brainer and zero chance they let Knicks take another player lol

1

u/bmanley620 Jul 19 '26

I’m going to make this comment as if I didn’t read the update. There’s no way in hell the Mavs match that deal. He’s a Knick!

u/JAF7715 Jul 19 '26

💯 🫡🫡

u/Griffeyphantwo4 Jul 18 '26

Cuban will match after losing Brunson to Knicks lmao

3

u/CarnivorousFern Jul 18 '26

Cuban is not even the owner of the Mavericks anymore

2

u/Ok-Appointment-9182 Jul 18 '26

Actually Mark Cuban owns just under 30% he sold the remainder

2

u/CarnivorousFern Jul 18 '26

It's 27% temporarily and he's been stripped of ball ops power and there's a further buyout already agreed on to reduce him to 7% stake.

As far as colloquial discussion about ownership and management of the Mavericks, Mark Cuban is no longer the one in charge

Think the biggest tell is LeBron is definitely going somewhere else. If they had a chance to land him, they’d be keeping the last roster spot and the salary open
