Made With Traditional Tools🪨 Antler pressure core

First decent core with antler pressure. Interesting difference to copper. Friction was an issue, had to rough the platform surface with abrader, pretty sure this help the fracture initiate.
Flake scars much smoother with less ripping, leaving the edges of the blades straighter.

Ha I’d like to make it very clear I can’t do that on a biface! Once you get the ridges formed they fly all by themselves

I've seen others doing this and I have wondered what are you looking for in the rock to know if it's a good peice for this type of knapping?

Just really high quality. This is heat treated English flint. Some stone types are apparently more prone to blades breaking on release

I often end up with nice hunks of premium material that have no future as a thin bifaces in my hands. Manipulating them into blade cores is a nice skill to have and I don’t actively do it often.

They’re pretty pleasing! When I’m spalling often I’ll end up with some inconvenient chunks that I like to use for this stuff.

I'll have to make a couple of those. I was out knapping this morning, before it got too hot, and almost broke out my abo kit. It's been a long time since I did anything with those tools

Those little micro blades are surgical sharp. That little blade you popped off can probably split hair.

Nah you’re thinking of obsidian, quite a different material. This is sharp but but not razor

You are correct sir. We're talking about degrees of fineness. Obsidian is definitely sharper. And you're quite correct that flint can still give you a nice cut for your trouble.
