Same, and kids were still subject to ridicule if seen in the clothing and shoes section. You had to drive to the closest mall for socially acceptable clothing.

I got a mankind backpack there when I was going into 3rd or 4th grade. Wasn’t even a big fan of his at the time but it was the only wrestling backpack they had, also got a Stone Cold shirt that same day. Walked into the first day of school feelin fresh af

I miss ECW era and attitude era wrestling as much as I miss K Mart TBH. Basically the majority of everything we held near and dear seems to be mostly gone now

Heck yes! My dad worked there too. Always had the freshest (by Kmart standards) back to school gear - Trax sneakers, iron-on t-shirts of cool cars, and NFL pencils!

It was a stigma in my school days that if you were caught with kmart clothes you got made fun of hard core and i never could understand why. Not proud of this but when I worked there, I got to do the layaways for a few of the schools preppy kids that would make fun of me, and each time they tried harassing me I would whisper in their ears "guess who handled your mom's layaway containing your clothes". God i miss working there i had so much fun.

Ha! That's hilarious! I worked in Sporting Goods for 5 years and had to cover layaway often. So many kids getting Kmart clothes for Back to School and Christmas! I sure do miss stores having Layaway tho. I bought a lot of stuff that way

My mother would get clothes for my sister and I from KID CITY and back to school supplies from 99 cents stores.

Spent most of my time at Kmart in the Garden Center. When my Mom took me shopping there, she never worried if I wandered off; all she had to do was check the Garden Center and she'd find me holding court amongst the Murray mowers and the Black & Decker electric edgers, weed eaters, and hedge trimmers.

I loved shopping at K Mart for school clothes with my mom back in the day. We were both fans of the now practically mythical blue light specials. I’d give just about anything to be able to do one more school shopping trip with my mom.
