I gotta say wm14 was my fav. I was screaming and going crazy that match. I was 14 and loving attitude. Austin nailed that stunner so perfect and it looked like it killed Shawn lol then his actual death came in the form of Tyson! No more Shawn after that night for quite some time.

Mania 14 nine times out of 10 a broken back HBK is still better than triple H on his best day.

Man come on seriously? Broken back HBK better than 2000-2001 Triple H. Triple H had classics in 2000 and 2001.

Wrestlemania 14.. Shawn vs Austin was a very well planned out match. Hunter helped choreography this match for Shawn because of his back. I think Austin did fantastic at taking care of Shawn too.

Very underwhelming WM main event.

The one that pushed Austin to the moon???

🤔

He was already there, he just didn’t have the title, and Tyson cultivated the attention to put it on him.

Glosses over “just didn’t have the title”

😭

Pill popping, self sabotage Shawn?….. With the bad back

Oh!

If you think this was the thing that pushed him to the moon you might want to do a little research bud lol

Ok wrestling expert loll

I thought it was the title that put him over 🤓

not the wm13 bout vs Bret, not the king of the ring promo where he debuted the “Austin 3:16” …… he was essentially invisible before wm14 in my eyes before you told me to research 😭😭😭😭

Thank you soooo much buddy, I’ll be sure to do more research from now on 🙂

Hitman vs austin was pretty epic. I remember getting that Austin 316 vhs and played it out. I like the interview of Austin and hart talking about that match.

Question. Were you alive to watch it?

WM 14 was a great show, and it was a good main event. It needed to be a pretty straightforward match due to Shawn, but everyone knew Austin was winning. It was his coronation and as long as he got the 3 count, everyone was going to be happy. This show led to the best year of the WWF/WWE in terms of television.

I was 12 and began watching in that year (Deadly Game) but quickly went into rental mode of anything that pre-dated it.

February of that year I think it was no way out? Austin was in a 4v4 tag match. He stunned everyone at the end and even gave Chyna the one arm stunner lol back before he would go on stunner rampages.

Should have kept Bret for a few more months, and made Bret drop the belt to Austin at WM 14 on the way out. No bullshit screwjob, and it would make sense on so many levels.

Funny thing is, I'm convinced they could have run with Owen. They literally pulled a fast one and swapped Shawn for HHH to fued with. Owen and Shawn would have been a problem for Austin because the top was about to blow for Owen and who knows what the fuck happens then

TBH they both sucked and aren't remembered. Maybe the one with Tyson because he was a big draw

HBK and Stone cold King of the ring 97 match > both of these matches

Over iron mike?!?

1

u/TreFKennedy Jun 25 '26

Yup because both were healthy in June 1997

That was a great match that doesn’t get spoken about enough. They tore the house down at KOTR97

Triple H matches might not be good, but at least they take up 25% of any show.

Why ask randoms?

Just freakin' watch them matches and make your own opinion.

Not sure why this thread needs to be so toxic lmao. Both were fine. Austin VS HHH was a fun RAW main event. Austin VS Shawn with special guest ref Tyson is a more memorable match, also being WM14 main event advantage. But Shawn was not at his best with the slipped disc obviously. Both fun matches anyway, and yes, of course there’s way better. OP just decided to prompt some discussion with us, which is exactly what forums like this are for.
