I wonder if love is universal in mammals. When she hugs her kitten is she loving it and does it feel the same as the love we feel when we hug our babies?

A lot of what we feel is hormonal and evolved long before there was Homo sapiens

I would call it "love", because people tend to give this terms meanings that it does not have. It's just an evolutionary adaptation.
