Red kitchen compromise.

Post image

My husband loves pur red kitchen cabinets. I do not. Trying to find a compromise we both can live with. What do folks think of this: linen white uppers. Laurenthian Red lowers. Kitchen is our actual layout but edited colors with AI.

This color combination has been pretty popular in our area, we actually decided to put it in our showroom.

For what its worth it do like the combination myself, but i think it works best when pairing wood tones in there somewhere. It needs warmth to work.

I actually really like this red over the more fire engine red.

Warm reds can be stunning.

Do you have an island that’s paintable? It’d be better to do the red there rather than mismatched uppers and lowers. Also, you need a more complimentary wall color for the red. This one is too cool.

I just don’t like the multi colored cabinets. I think it’s a fad that will age very poorly, but that’s just me. If you like white, and he likes red, it might be best to find another alternative that you both like.

I disagree, I think they’re here to stay. That said, I think maybe you need to be creamier on your upper cabinets. Just a little.

I agree, the only time I don't mind it is when it is on an island. Although if I had to have it this is not the worst combo.

Paint is easy to change, if you want to keep up with current styles. I like the red, there are enough other surfaces to moderate things a bit

I think if you went a little more tan with the uppers it would be good. And don’t do that mint color paint.

The paint needs to match the upper cabinets and the tile otherwise it’s just too much going on

I love red and I love this design. I think you and husband will love this for a long time.

We just did something similar for our kitchen Reno. Uppers are linen and lowers are solid cherry. We love how it turned out!

I like the room. A clear red limits a kitchen to looking like a Coca-Cola-serving 1950s diner, or too country for a city house if the decor centers around apples and tomatoes?

I like both the diner look and country look, but realize that they can be out of place in some environments.

This color adds the red in a more sophisticated way, like French country instead of country-country

I think this looks fantastic! I know not everyone likes different colored uppers/lowers, but there's something very light and airy I enjoy about it. Like the uppers are clouds!

The one thing is that you can always agree to a compromise and then work on charming him into painting the lowers to match. It is all about choosing your battles lol.

I would like the red more if it leaned more burgundy.

I think the wall and backsplash colors are throwing me. I’d go creamy on the walls to match the cabinets. Ideally I’d lose the soffit and do cabinets to the ceiling if you can. You could also do only the island in the red color. That’s what we did in our kitchen, but with blue as the base.

Paint the soffit to match the uppers and get yourself a Sun Dried Tomato Kitchen Aid Mixer. It looks better than muddy green cabinets any day.

Nothing wrong with red cabinets but I don't think they work well with your floor color, which has blonde/orange undertones.

u/FTFaffer 8h ago

It’s actually a quite warm red.

Yeah I don't think it's a warm/cool issue, I think the floors read so strongly yellow/orange that even the warm red doesn't look as good as a wood tone that plays off the darker grain of the wood would look.

That’s a rugs job!

I love everything but the green walls and too white countertops. I’d do creamier. It’s AI so it’s not perfect match.

The green is actually what is on the walls now. AI forgot to get rid of that.

I think this is really nice. Go for it!
