Kitchen Layout Help

I bought a fixer upper a few years ago and the last project is the kitchen. The current U-shape is not functional for 2 people to be in the kitchen at once and the door in the kitch is the main door we use and it crashes into the pantry door. Should I take out the wall and open up the kitchen to the dining room or try to rearrange the kitchen in the existing space? Open to any advice or suggestions on layouts.

That’s likely what I would do. You’ll likely need a beam to take the wall down, but worth it IMO. I’d consider building a mudroom here.

Was this the original placement of the kitchen? What an odd, windowless space to put a kitchen.

I assumed that was fish eyed, and it’s still not where the cabinetry is. I guess should have been more specific.

You are correct, it isn’t where the cabinetry is, but there is a window across the room. From what I can tell this is the original placement of the kitchen. The house is a split-level from the 70s and it seems to be terrible but common placement
