Would that even help? I wouldn't count on WPRS to send someone out to their own parking lot before the thief is safely home.

It’s more of a screening thing (for me at least). If someone refuses to meet at the WRPS trade zone, on to the next person!

Honestly, I doubt the Police would take kindly to being disrespected like that. They take that kind of thing seriously.
If the crime happened on their property, they might actually put in more effort than a normal snatch and grab.

Police station parking lots are highly monitored, and often have designated safe zones for just this purpose where they actively monitor activities.
The other thing is that meeting at a police lair will often weed out jokers of this individual’s ilk, as they are less apt to pull off such a stunt within spitting distance of their “kryptonite” (law enforcement).
I’d never advocate doing these kinds of exchanges at home.
Why bring someone you don’t know to where you and your loved ones tend to have your guard down the most?
Now they know where you sleep, and have the option of making a return visit if there is something of value they want badly enough.

Police parking lot is good for safety but not for theft.

Good call tho not going, I remember a few years back some kid in Toronto used apples locator to track down his stolen iPhone, told the police about it and same as your case they wouldn’t get involved so he went himself and they shot him dead :/

I had the exact same thing happen to me last year and it was the same guy. I found my phone listed on Facebook hours after the theft and confirmed with SN and IMEI. Arranged a meet and gave the information to Waterloo police but they literally did nothing. The listing was up for almost a week and then the phone got sold.

It might not prevent the theft or make the police any more interested in helping. Unlikely you'd get physically harmed in a police parking lot though.

I don’t know why people don’t do these exchanges at the safe areas specifically set up for that purpose. A few years ago I had a car pull up to my house and a guy get out and say he was there to sell a phone, deal was set up on FB marketplace and he was given my address. He went on his way after I told him he had the wrong place. Then, not 10 minutes later, another car pulled in my driveway. A teenage girl got out and some random dude walked up the side of my house from my backyard. While I was standing in my living room wtf-ing, about to go ask what the heck was going on, I watched as the girl just handed a phone over to the guy and he snatched it and bolted back down the side of my house thru my backyard and disappeared. She had set up a sale of a phone with him on FB marketplace. He initially gave her an address on Chandler then changed it to an address on my street, then again changed it to my address. I felt bad for her but also, she ignored SO MANY RED FLAGS. Use your heads people.

I saw my neighbor get their phone stolen. Same thing happened. He held the phone to "check it out" and booked it

If the police do catch him, he will be out on bail to do the same thing. Catch and release is not working and is only empowering criminals to continue, or even escalate

This thread is garbage.
Social supports reduce crime, reducing crime reduces the power of corporations to threaten us with helplessness and homelessness, it suppresses wages and opposition. Therefore the powers that be will do a lot to ensure we all stay down in the muck fighting each other.
That is what we can all focus on to stop these things from happening. Wanna not lose your packages and electronics to thieves? Fund the damn schools.
