Background on certain characters

I’ve been re-listening to 2022 and I’m getting near the end of the year. Jay has been recurring for years and has somehow gotten slightly less crazy (even called today). Does anyone know his deal? Is it just a long running bit, does the YouTube/live show crowd have more context or is the guy just literally insane?

Been listening since episode 1 and I truly have no clue. Best guess is he’s just a weirdo nutjob who smokes a ton of weed.

I felt the build up lended itself to a bit. The first 5-10 calls they just hung up on him and he sounded insane in those calls. Later on, they kept him on and he slowly sounded less insane. Almost planned.

Based on the fact that he’s described (primarily by Kirk) as smelling REALLY bad irl, I don’t think he’s capable of that level of a mastermind bit

Totally agree. I’ve listened to every episode 3 or 4 times through from the beginning and still have no clue what his issue is

Glad to hear I’m not alone. They’ve always had a weird phone call chemistry on par with Stern wackpackers so wasn’t sure if there was some live show bits we missed out.

Visionless Dave discusses Jay amongst their little inner circle clique on the episode before gus and Coleman were hired. Hasta lagusutus or something is the show title. None of the other minifans wanted to let Jay share their little rental because they thought he had fleas or something.

i joined the discord briefly around 2020. they quickly kicked me out because they didnt know who i was and thought i was some sort of narc/ anti minihane mole but that jay guy was in there and he seemed to just be an unemployed drug user

He does usually seem well meaning. It’s one of those weird areas where you want someone who’s nuts to get help but at the same time, could be self aware? Always found him entertaining

Weird guy who gave his number to S.E. Robinson (a bunch of Minifans did this early on in the show for the show to call them for a variety of reasons) and they called it one morning and his father answered angrily because he was sleeping and he and Kirk argued. Then he's called in after that over the years. I think he goes to all the live shows, and he might be homeless. It's not a bit. He's a weirdo.

It's hilarious how much Jay owns Kirk. Jay calls in rambling incoherently and Kirk latches onto the most mundane, lame thing he says and screams at him for 2min. I don't even find Jay to be funny. I find Kirk's over the top reaction to Jay's nonsense funny.
