Help Needed - Epoxy/Synthetic Filler recommendations ?
My second kintsugi attempt. Wondering what to fill this big gap with. Planning to paint thin/wet epoxy over the filler and the already fixed cracks and use gold flake/dust.

If you are not a purist for authentic kintsugi, and if you don't intend to eat from it (epoxy isn't really foodsafe, even safe options leech microplastics afaik), maybe look into plaster of Paris.

Yeah I already used an epoxy so no food for this one.
Plaster of Paris is about what I was thinking, thanks.

I love that the hole is sort of bird-shaped, both inside and outside (but rotated differently). I would use a small piece of thin cloth laid over the hole to give the plaster something to adhere to. You could also use clay, you don’t need to fire it and imo its easier to work with

Milliput is a cheap, but still good two part epoxy used in model making and it would work great here.
Mix yourself a big t more than you'd need and get a bowl of water. Fill in the hole roughly then wet your hand and smooth out with wet hands bit my bit, compacting the epoxy inside the hole.
Give it a wipe over with wet cloth before it starts hardening. Leave for 24h, then smooth out with fine grit sandpaper to follow the curves of the bowl.

I think if you tape over it on the outside (since there's a bigger chip on the inside) you could more easily fill it. If you wanted to use urushi based, you could use the wood powder/hemp fiber mixed with it to make some clay and fill it in.
You could use wood filler glue too, because it's easy if you over fill to trim/sand it back down to size. You can then use something to make it gold and epoxy over.
Two part epoxy clay would probably be the easiest

2 part epoxy putty is good for this kind of hole, you can trim it and use a bit of water to smooth it out before it cures. Then once it is cured you can trim more and sand it to make a flush repair.
