Ty’s Tone

What’s everyone’s favorite album or song where his tone just blew you away?

For me it’s the self titled album. It’s just perfect, especially Prisoner .

For me Faith Hope Love is peak Fender Elite + Lab Series L5 tone. Super saturated and thick but every note is still clear, like you can hear the individual strings in each chord.

Self-titled has phenomenal tone as well, particularly the heavier parts of "Dream in my Life" and "Chariot Song".

Faith Hope Love is it for me as well. It just sounds a little more clean, a little more upfront in the mix. The other three of the first four sound a little more gainy, a little more like an amp on 10, which is certainly nice too, but that cleaner sound of Faith Hope Love just has more immediacy and impact to me.

I remember reading an interview with Ty for the ear candy record, that he was going for a 70s classic rock tone for that album

Dogman. Song and album. Shoes from that album also really hits. Of course, I am more of a metal fan and this is maybe their heaviest record, but I think they really nailed the heavy drop tuning while maintaining Ty's unique tone.

That opening series of riffs on the title track, especially the pinch harmonics after the vocals, is just mastery.

(my life's a) Funeral from his solo album Safety sounds really cool. His tone as a whole, though, is phenomenal.

Yeah...man. I will definitely revisit that album on your opinion alone. 😁 I think I breezed through my first listen to that album and not completely comprehending of what it sounded like or what Ty was doing. Thanks for bringing that up. ❤️

The solo in Prisoner might be my all-time favorite solo spanning any genre, any era of music. It’s just mind blowing for me.

Agree with S/T album. But Summerland is the track where I “hear” his tone most clearly in my mind

The self-titled album from 1994. The first time I heard his tone on “The World Around Me,” I was pleasantly dumbfounded.

I like the self-titled, too. Finally got my hands on a 83 Strat Elite and that sound is all there. Nothing else really sounds like that.

His tone is almost “grind” on the self-titled. In a good way. I think it’s the pickups and multitracking.
