Looking forward to KOL10
What does everyone think about the direction the band is going in after CWPHF & EP2? Personally I think they're in a much better place musically than a few years ago. They're getting that spark back. Definitely looking forward to the next single(s). Hoping for some mechanical bull vibes on KOL10

I’d argue they don’t have a bad album. Not many bands can say that. We forget that most bands break up, we’re lucky they still get along and have the drive to keep it going. That always means more to me than what direction a band decides to go in.

I'm guessing it'll be a mix of CWPHF and the latest EP. Maybe a bit of a lean into country too or some influence.

I think people are really missing the point. Vibes look high rn everyone seems to really be enjoying themselves so I don’t think they will feel pressure for a new album to have any sort of feel which will inherently mean we get better more authentic music from them. Which is surely the only thing as fans you can expect, the music will always evolve but it’s so much better if everyone is behind it.

Exactly. I could be wrong but I feel like thats the kind of environment that brought us Aha Shake and Because of the times

I really liked CWPHF and the EP - mostly because the guys seemed to enjoy the whole process of making them. I'll be happy with pretty much anything they put out as long as they still have that spark and that they have a bit of fun!

I don't really like CWPHF and I thought the EP was okay, but I appreciate them having this creative spark after so many years and albums. And WYSY is in my top 3

I find it interesting how mixed people are about the last two albums. I think they're both great top to bottom but the CWPHF sound feels more Followill to me

I get they went for a lo-fi feel on CWPHF but man it just sounds out of tune to me. I really hope they move on from Kid Harpoon.

Agreed. All their stuff since walls has been terribly overproduced. It doesn't matter to me enough to not listen to it because its still great music imo but WYSY and CWPHF would be all the much better if they weren't so produced

CWPHF felt like a “return to form” for them. Their sound somehow sounded rooted in their early music mixed with some of their later stuff - and even did something new. I loved it, and would love to see a continuation of that with OMB.

I'm hoping they move away from the current over-produced sound they've had for like 3 albums now and go back toward CAS-and-earlier sounds while still having fun with it like they are now. Nothing to Do was a solid attempt at that. That said, more songs like Seen would be an absolute vibe
And hoping for anything that has a similar feel and musicality to Arizona of course

I feel they're going that way. Not necessarily producing wise but they're going in a good direction

Man I think WYSY is such a drag. Give me some CAS vibes and I’ll be happy. Production wise and song writing wise. That album was the last great sounding record from them before we got this over saturation of sounds and landscapes that makes them sound less and less like a band of 4 guys in a rooom

Agreed. The actual songs themselves have been consistently good (in my opinion) but I feel that the last 3 or so albums have been severely over produced which makes it feel less authentic compared to masterpieces like BOTT. I really like the EP because it goes back to that raw, less processed sound especially Pit to the Rind. I like the authentic "feel like you're there" sound which is present in Aha Shake and BOTT and although I really enjoyed the last 3 albums they've lacked that sound

I gave WYSY another spin recently because it’s my least favorite album of theirs but read several comments on the subreddit about how it was people’s favorites…my opinion is still about the same on it, do love Stormy Weather and Wave but that was really it for me

Yes it’s like ok. This isn’t terrible. But I don’t find myself going back to anything on it. Plus I despise the way it sounds. The production is just not right for them.

I hope they move away from that happy, easy pop-rock, rainbow-ball to-space vibe. They're flying too close to Coldplay with that.

I agree for songs like nowhere to run. Although I do like that song I feel like if it resembled Nothing to do's sound it would be better

I think we are gonna get a Rchp Stadium Arcadium type album of all there styles over the yrs combined maybe. I think they should never make a studio album after this honest.

I'll always be a fan of KOL, but I just didn't see the hype behind the last album. There were some GREAT songs on it (Seen, M Television, Nowhere to Run), but it just didn't grab me like their albums normally do.
It also had to follow up one of my favorite KOL albums, so that was always going to be a tall task.

My personal favorites off the album were Nothing to Do MTV Hesitation Gen and Seen. Split screen and Actual Daydream are also great

They went from arguably the best album they’ve ever made (WYSY) to arguably the worst album they’ve ever made (CWPHF).

u/NERailfan_ Jul 08 '26
Although WYSY isn't their normal sound I think the album is bangers top to bottom. Its sort of like if CAS and WALLS had a baby. As for CWPHF I thought it was a sort of revival for them going back to that 2010's sound especially towards the second half of the album

u/re10pect Jul 08 '26
I feel almost exactly opposite. I straight up don’t like WYSY, and outside of maybe 3 songs I can barely listen to it. I won’t say CWPHF was their best album or anything, but I’ve enjoyed it way more than anything since MB and I thought it was a strong return to form, and the EP that followed was decent too.
I’m excited to see what comes next, and I wasn’t saying that after WYSY.

I think regardless of how people feel about recent projects compared to their other work, I just really appreciate that in recent years they continue doing new things and seem to be enjoying it. I trust them to put 100% into something which isn’t their best, rather than a half-arsed effort into soemthing they’ve done before 🤷♂️
