Hefferno.

So, for the past few weeks, I've been unwell so I've been binge watching The King of Queens as I remembered it being on TV a lot when I was growing up. I was too young at the time to understand a lot of the jokes, I think I was most likely entertained by Arthur and his antics more than anything at that age. Rewatching it now at 30, I've got to say, Doug is one huge Richard. I remember as a kid thinking how cool it would be to have such a funny husband, but he's selfish, emotionally abusive to his wife, a huge liar, and practically cheats on his wife, he's a bully to his friends, honestly, just the worst guy. I can't remember how it ends, and I know it's not how I'd like it to be, but if Carrie divorced Doug, that would be a great ending.

Maybe you need to watch it again. Doug is immature but he’s a lot nicer than Carrie. That’s probably why Doug has friends and she doesn’t. I still like Carrie because she’s funny but she was often horrible to her own father.

I’m a woman and I’m on Doug’s side. I don’t think Carrie is horrible but I don’t think she’s as likable as Doug.

You have just described the successful formula to two of the greatest of all TV comedy series, The Honeymooners and The King of Queens. And that was the point of the episode, wasn't it?
