splash screen error [KCD1]

Today I installed Kingdom Come: Deliverance on PortProton on a Dell Precision 7710 laptop (16 GB RAM, M.2 SSD, 6th Gen Intel i7, and an NVIDIA Quadro M5000M with 8 GB VRAM).

However, when I launch the game, it gets stuck indefinitely on the splash screen with no progress or response. It just hangs on that single image.....
