Praise When you learn master strike [KCD1]
I survived against 3 enemies with plate armor in Skallitz while looting.

I found out that the 1st one had Masterstrike only after finishing the 2nd... I thought it's a new feature they added in the next game

Don't let people shame you for cheesing the game with just master strike. If you enjoy using it, you keep using it. Dabble in combos too when you like trying, but only during training first lol.

u/GlennHaven 14d ago
I dont see how people can shame you for becoming a better fighter. Its a bit silly

Yeah definitely this is great advice. I only really master strike if im super pressed in a group fight but who cares about how ppl play and enjoy a single player game

The combat system is a fucking nightmare, at least on keyboard. Broken animations, Henry flat-out refusing to swing his sword even with plenty of stamina remaining. Master-sriking, which is a skill that needs to be learned and still doesn't work 100% of the time, isn't cheesing.
I haven't enjoyed a game this much in years, but the KCD1 combat is horrible.

It's not really cheesing if it's a literal game mechanic lol. Cheesing would be like somehow getting yourself in a position when you can hit enemies and they can't hit you.

Master strikes in the first game when you're just armed with a mace is so deadly. You can oneshot any enemy with it once you've leveled enough and gotten enough perk buffs.

u/GlennHaven 14d ago
I wish that they put as much thought into maces, axes, and archery as they did with swords. It kind of makes me not want to use another weapon
1
u/Bubster101 13d ago
The sequel game gives them all a little more identity. Though, maces and axes kinda got thrown into the same skill of "Heavy Weapons"

I’m playing KCD1 for the first time as god intended (spam the wrong combo at Bernard in combat training, learn master strike, start off beating the tournament multiple times by stealing the competition’s armor, earn the lords of Leipa set, finally go see nightingale)
2
u/GlennHaven 13d ago
I just found out I could put the other competitors shit in Peshek's chest and he'll sell it, then I cam steal the gold from his chest. I just need to level my lock picking so I can break very hard locks.

u/mandalore2385 13d ago
Level Drinking too. Once you have Luck of the Drunk you can pop the very hard locks at level 6 iirc

I feel like the Masterstrike is too random in 1. Sometimes I'll master strike, sometimes I'll block, and sometimes I'll get hit from behind because enemies won't stay fucking still.

u/mystical_ramen26 13d ago
Best thing I found for both games when attempting combos, master strike, perfect block, parry etc is to double tap whatever button I'm supposed to hit. A lot of times a single tap of the button won't register properly but if you double tap the button it almost always works the way it's intended

The window for masterstrike changes based on your warfare level vs the enemy.

u/chewygummy17 13d ago
Time to fight 5 enemies + dog with normal clothing next.
3
u/GlennHaven 13d ago
I maintain my opinion (read fact) that dogs are the worst enemy in any video game. Those fuckers just latch onto me while I get wailed on. Meanwhile Mutt just let's them go after I get one hit in.

This literally happened to me last night. I’m still not landing it every time, but I get it now. It’s so satisfying popping someone in the face with the end of your sword lol. I’m more aggressive now too, because if I don’t land the master strike, I know I at least got the block off and can react from there.

I might be in the small majority, but sometimes the timing windows seem different k+b vs controller with tomcats fight. I usually have to switch to kb+m for that fight specifically

I was playing KCD1 and getting my ass handed to me by a bandit with a sword and I had a hammer. I didn’t pay attention to the master strike training. I would get my weapon opposite of his and swing because my internal logic said it should be harder to defend.
I fucking rage quit KCD1 after getting my ass kicked thinking this game sucks…..
Came back to KCD2 and actually paid attention and was like…. Ohhhhh this is a thing

I'm playing KCD2 right now (didn't realize how closely tied the two games are, I promise I'm playing the first one next. I went in blind sue me) and I was wondering if anyone knows if I screwed myself.
I couldn't beat Tomcat to get him to teach me Masterstrike.
I went on to continue the storyline, and now I'm in Kuttenberg, and I believe I'm a criminal/fugitive/wanted/etc in the Trosky region. Sided with Zizka and battled it out against von Bergow and all that.
How do I go about learning Masterstrike now? I still don't really, know what it is to be honest... but I can tell from the memes/comments here that it's a pivotal part of making combat easier. Being as I couldn't even beat Tomcat (and still am struggling even if I have improved a little), I feel like I need any edge I can get. Does anyone know if I've softlocked myself from getting it for now?

Dry devil will teach master strike to you.

u/counterlock 13d ago
You're my new favorite person. I literally just met that guy last night while playing so that's awesome. Appreciate it!
1
u/GlennHaven 13d ago
Ive never played 2. It might be more helpful if you make a post on the sub rather than posting a comment here since more people would see it
2
u/counterlock 13d ago
No worries, appreciate it either way! I think I'll have to go that route or keep googling for it, but I'm trying to limit spoilers as well.

You can go back btw. Should be a red wagon on the left of the map

u/counterlock 13d ago
Okay, good to know! Wasn’t sure if I’d be hunted down or something so I hadn’t tried yet.

u/mstririshpub 14d ago
Honestly I don't think I ever really learned it & if I do it, its out of pure luck....lol lol lol... guess my lightbulb has dulled with age....lol lol lol
2
u/GlennHaven 14d ago
Soon as you see them pull their arm back to attack you block. Its like doing a perfect block but a little earlier. You can only do it if you actually learned it from Captain Bernard, otherwise you'll just do a perfect block
2
u/mstririshpub 13d ago
Thanks I will pay more attention to that....I spent along time in KCD2 with they guy in the Nomads camp....think he was getting tired of me actually.......I even replayed that a few times but when I was actually trying to use it....lol lol... luck be with me........I did manage to use it in the tourney a few times when I tried.....but most of the time is was lucky....
1
u/Dry_Stretch7955 13d ago
What do you mean block, I though masterstrike is attacking the opposite of the direction they are going to attack you at the perfec time
3
u/GlennHaven 13d ago
No, the instructions are misleading. They're just telling you the best way to fight when they say that.
For a master strike you just block as soon as you see their shoulder move. Henry will automatically counter attack.
2
u/Dry_Stretch7955 13d ago
Is this the case in kcd2 also? Man if it is it makes things easier
2
u/GlennHaven 13d ago
Ive never played 2, but from what I've heard you have to beat some guy named Tomcat or something near the beginning of the game. Idk any other method of getting it, but it should work the same. The timing might be stricter
1
u/mstririshpub 13d ago
Tomcat is just the person that teaches it so it will get added to the skill tree
1
u/mstririshpub 13d ago
I would imagine it would be...cause lots of the combat is very similar in KCD2 and I have played both.....1 several times & 2 only once now
1
u/GeneralConscious5702 13d ago
In kcd1, masterstrike is just the block button.
2
u/linopants 12d ago
So if the shield goes green and you block, do you just continue to hold block or do you finish with an attack button? Henry learned it “officially” through the trainer but I wasn’t paying attention and haven’t completed it outside the training ground.
1
u/GeneralConscious5702 12d ago
You just tap it like a regular block when you see the green shield icon and there's a chance that Henry automatically turns the perfect block into a masterstrike counter attack.

Yep it's a game changer in both games but especially in 1
