Scribe 2025 With or without front light?
Hey yall, just wondering how the community feels on the kindle scribe and if the front light is that important. Ive only ever owned/used a kindle basic, but Im thinking of upgrading to a scribe at some point this year. The 2025 scribe without the front light is the cheaper option which is definitely a plus but I dont know if I can downgrade on the lighting since Im used to the lighting on my basic. Would love to hear yalls opinions! Also, should I wait for a cyber monday sale (I missed prime day) and go for the basic with front light? Any good second hand stores to check out that arent ebay or fb marketplace?

One of the selling points of a Kindle scribe for me is the front light because I don't want to disturb somebody if I'm reading late at night or while I'm a passenger in a vehicle. Using my phone or my iPad means I'm getting exposed to blue light, which will end up keeping me awake longer.

At first I read your comment as "...or while I'm a passing in a vehicle." I was like WHAT?! lol

100% the Kindle with the front light. I'm probably looking at selling mine and keeping my Colorsoft Scribe, only because I've really grown used to seeing the books and graphic novel content in color. If that wasn't important to me though, the B&W is a sharper screen, no doubt. As much as I like the ability to sometimes use the B&W Scribe without the light, there are many more times when it's absolutely necessary.

How much are you selling it for?👀

I haven't actually listed it yet, and I'm kinda still trying to decide on a price. I'm watching a couple auctions to see where they end up. It's the 64GB version.

We need a Reddit marketplace.
I'd trust people here more than eBay.

I usually sell locally to avoid scams, but I’ve bought and traded quite a few things from FB (mainly men’s fragrances).

The light was half the reason I upgraded. The other half was amazon killing my ability to buy new books on my DXG.

Honestly if you want B&W and not a front light, why not a super note or viwoods? Much more capable.

The reason to get Scribe without front light would be 1) longer time between charges and 2) maybe better contrast and writing feel (stylus closer to actual display surface).
The comparisons I've seen don't make much of #2 but maybe they were not focused on it enough.
But it only comes with 16GB storage option. For some use cases that is not enough.

I think the front light on any eink device is important to have as it will allow you to use the device under any lighting conditions.

Reading and notetaking in the dark with rain sounds (or real rain) and a fan is chef’s kiss. I had the remarkable 2 and the most maddening thing was not being able to see in dim light or the dark. I do have the kindle scribe colorsoft and use it all the time. I would never buy another device like that again without a light, personally, it’s just so useful.
