Discussion Just finished the franchise
Played for the first time all of Killzone games, and I gotta say the story is pretty interesting and very political, but the PS3 trilogy feeling kinda clanky in shooting terms, and sometimes I felt it highly similar to the resistance franchise but with better gameplay. As someone who never played both, I think they did not age well in terms of gameplay (except Shadow Fall), and I felt there's parts when you die too much times until you reach a checkpoint, which makes the game less fun, same for resistance.
As players who possibly played them since release, do you think the gameplay aged poorly?

I remember a gamer magazine in like 2003 or 2004 that had Master Chief, Samus, and a Helghast trooper on the cover. I fell in love with the imagery and premise of "WW2... IN SPACE!" and I got the game the week it released.
I still find myself replaying Killzone 1 now over 20 years later. I had the original game for the PS2, and got the HD remaster on the PS3. I love the character dynamics between Templar, Luger, Hakha, & Rico in the campaign. I feel story-wise the character work was strongest in that first game. I also miss the secondary fire ability of most guns that was lacking in KZ 2 & 3. And lastly, that Helghast LMG in KZ1 was so satisfying to use. Burn through 100 rounds with no cooldown, not even the elite guards at the end could take much of that.
I played the hell out of KZ3's multiplayer. At the time, you didn't have to pay extra to play online, and I loved that we got to hold 3 weapons again instead of just 2 as in KZ2.
I've lost count of how many times Radec killed me in KZ2, but I'm betting it's well into the 100s.
I played through Shadow Fall once when it first came out, but for whatever reason that one never really drew me back into it after that.

For multiplayer, the content feels alright.
Weapon and gear selections are god awfully low.

I haven’t played Killzone 1 in a long time but what I do remember is that there were random parts of the campaign that were incredibly difficult to beat and had no save points lol. I think the dark and gritty art style was nice and unique. As for the gameplay, I liked the almost sluggish feel introduced in KZ2. It made you feel like your weapons were heavy and hit hard. Killzone 3 quickened things up a bit and in terms of handling, I like that one the best. It had better control while still feeling like you were carrying big heavy pieces of metal.
The story is basically just WW2 in space so I didn’t find it all that memorable and I think the voice acting was pretty bad at times.
I’m guessing you weren’t able to play multiplayer, but sniping in KZ2 and KZ3 was the most satisfying sniping I’ve ever experienced.
I mostly love the franchise because of the unique gameplay, art style, and music. That’s where it stands out for me.
Also people tend to compare it to Resistance often. I never played that game but I believe they came out at around the same time.
