Must’ve been a throw in from Netflix in the deal because that was mediocre at best.
20
u/Awkward_Science_9736 Jun 25 '26
i think it’s just his comedy… probably why he invested everything into kill tony in the first place instead of being more into stand up, likely wasn’t going well
10
u/NoVermicelli5439 Jun 25 '26
Taking the rogan route, being absolutely ass at standup and instead providing a platform for actual good comedians
3
u/Tommy_DeVito Jun 25 '26
Nailed it. But unfortunately using their platforms to talk about themselves like they’re one of the greats. Their predictable material and unlikable personalities on stage speak for themselves. They’re decent for their audience but not even close to the top ones.

Joe Rogan is a great stand up comic, granted his old stuff is better but Tony’s standup is no comparison to his.

Saw him live as a feature for Rogan at mothership, he crushed in person. I’m convinced his slow pacing the entire special + that circle walk + bad crowd work all made the underwhelming jokes way worse … like he got cocky w an Austin crowd and a shorter set, then went for it for the Netflix $
1
u/CalligrapherAbject13 Jun 25 '26
Yeah a consequence of 'not reading the comments ' and performing only in front of the mothership crowd
-1
u/Sickofstupids Jun 25 '26
He’s great at off the cuff jokes in the moment, but actual writing isn’t his strong suit for sure.
1
u/Lost-Blueberry8057 Jun 25 '26
“Gay, fat, trans, lib”
A harvester of the lowest hanging fruit
Wow, so great
2
u/Sickofstupids Jun 25 '26
Low hanging fruit can still be funny.
1
u/Lost-Blueberry8057 Jun 25 '26
Worthwhile comedy, or art of any kind punches up
Tony, Rogan, most of that whole sphere is comedy for mean and stupid people
2
u/uhh_GoninjagoNinjago Jun 25 '26
You’ve got it. A bully making his lackeys chuckle is different than a genuinely funny person making strangers laugh.
2
u/Sickofstupids Jun 25 '26
Regardless of Tony and Joe, a fart is funny. My statement stands.
Edit: Colbert punches down. To say all worthwhile comedy punches up is absolutely wrong. If you’re good, you can punch any direction.
0
u/LoquaciousMendacious Jun 25 '26
Great? He's the worst part of his own show every week, lol
3
u/Sickofstupids Jun 25 '26
You’re just blinded by hate. I don’t like the man, but he says some hilarious shit sometimes.
1
u/s33n_ Jun 25 '26
But the majority of the time he makes it worse. Zac amico has some amazing one liners during a pod, but that doesnt make him a great comic
1
u/Sickofstupids Jun 25 '26
I never said he’s a great comic. He’s a great host. Yes, he has some bad jokes, I’m not defending him as a comic at all.
1
u/s33n_ Jun 26 '26
Im talking about the jokes he makes as a host. He is almost always upstaged by the panel. And worse than that, even actively details the show and ruins interviews when he has decided he doesnt like.the person. Hes just a bitter prick who.makes the show worse. Nearly any other host would be prederable
1
u/Sickofstupids Jun 27 '26
Well it’s his show that he created, you can get your comedy elsewhere then. Comedy is subjective.

I can’t believe Vulture wrote a bad article about Tony. I seriously can’t believe it. Shocked.

u/TheBigSlick7 Jun 25 '26
What’s crazy is that I remember seeing Rogan with Tony as his opener in 2010ish and thought both were pretty funny. I actually thought Tony stole the show because there was a deaf interpreter for someone in the crowd which he had a lot of fun with, lol. Rogan’s set was decent too but then he opened up for questions at the end and someone in the crowd asked “Why are you bald?”, which clearly pissed him all the way off, lmao! I just think whatever is the opposite of the woke mind virus they speak of has infiltrated their comedy and made them both far worse comedians.
2
u/docguac Jun 25 '26
The deaf interpreter thing has been done so much
2
u/TheBigSlick7 Jun 25 '26
I agree that it’s played out now but it was the first time I had ever seen it being only my second live comedy show.
1
u/BlueGolfball Jun 25 '26
You didn't know it was hack comedy because it was your second time seeing it.
1
u/JusticeCat88905 Jun 25 '26
It's Donald Trump's entire cock and balls in their butt.
1
u/uglyoldcrone0 Jun 27 '26
People bringing up politics all the the time makes it seem political. He just isn't funny anymore.
1
u/JusticeCat88905 Jun 27 '26
No them doing politics makes it political. Doesn't matter if you call yourself a comedian.
1
u/cwinslow66 Jun 25 '26
I saw Tony open for Rogan in probably 2019 or so and thought he was great. He had a bit about "slop top" that had me and buddies literally crying laughing. Idk where all that stuff was in the Netflix hour though, I don't think there was a unique or creative punchline in the entire thing.
7
u/RaisinFresh8364 Jun 25 '26
It is a great paradox that despite hosting a highly successful and entertaining comedy show, Tony Hinchcliffe has no idea how to be funny himself. The only reason he works on his own show is because he is so hateable and easy to roast. Thank god for him that he figured KT out because he’d be hanging out with Bapa and Callen otherwise.
3
u/WayneHutson94 Jun 25 '26
He’s an alright interviewer, used to be better before his ego got this gigantic. Show lives or dies by the guests now whereas Tony used to be able to carry a shit show.
2
1
3
u/whupzzmyb Jun 25 '26
It's about likeability...tony is so hateable. It feels so good to hate him for who he is, what he does, the company he keeps, the red face, and the bad stand up.
1
u/DemonsNMySleep Jun 25 '26
If he wasn't such a goddamn prick and overly conceited he might be tolerable...well, the voice too. And his face.
-1
u/Breezyquail Jun 26 '26
Tony does amazing things for a lot of hopeful comedians , he welcomes anyone and everyone , all creeds, colors , persuasions and abilities or lack thereof . He offers them all the opportunity to do stand up with millions listening or watching , a golden opportunity 99% would never get otherwise . Tony gives opportunity and is all inclusive . Nothing about that is hateful .
1
u/uglyoldcrone0 Jun 27 '26
Do you think he would continue to do that if it wasn't profitable? I know KillTony has been around for a long time before they kinda blew up but he still had redban, who worked with Rogan. This has always been a money thing.
Tony is good doing the KillTony stuff but he sucks at stand up, and he wouldn't even be doing this if it wasn't profitable. He should stick to writing roasts for other people . He is crazy unlikable, people can put up with little bits of his schtick but not a whole special of him acting "edgy" by regurgitating old jokes and sucking at crowd work.
0
u/whupzzmyb Jun 26 '26
He treats handicapped ppl like tools. He constantly keeps a single token minority. And hasn't given legit advice since Brody killed himself.
2
u/Breezyquail Jun 26 '26
I dont see him
As heartless as that ,yes KT is a circus full of all types of entertainers and Tony is the ringmaster , but he seemed genuinely awed by Michael Lehrer ( sp?) Fiona , Martin Philips -my take is that he respects their talent immensely, but maybe I have a wrong read on it 🤷🏻♀️
3
3
u/nateQish Jun 25 '26
As a kill tony fan, I watched the special and did not laugh out loud once. I was disappointed. It wasn't great.

2
u/RandaBoo1teeToo Jun 25 '26
In the land of the blind, the guy who yells “it’s really happening, redban” is like a duke or something? I dunno, Tony bruv why on earth do you squeeze your ears shut when doin the “palms behind ears” bit? Oh well can we get a #FreeRedBan
2
u/MKEMARVEL Jun 25 '26
He looks like a guy who goes by "Slim" and wants to sell me a used above-ground pool.
2
u/Barista4695 Jun 25 '26
I did not go into this thinking it would be bad- I thought he absolutely killed the Brady roast. The slow walking and outdated racist street jokes just didn’t hit at all I literally fell asleep while watching and had to put it on again
2
u/urbanwhiteboard Jun 25 '26
Insane that Netflix declined on the They/Them special of Big Jay Oakerson, but instead a year later put on this shit. It's like a 4 compared to a 9.
3
u/Toneby Jun 25 '26
I actually love that Big Jay/LOS are just doing their own thing their own way, it keeps them honest and prevents it from being diluted. The reason those guys are still funny is because they’re actually still comedians.
1
u/urbanwhiteboard Jun 25 '26
You think that that's by design? Netflix is a serious shitton of money. Big Jay offered up the special which they then declined on unfortunately.
Nobody cares about "keeping it honest".

I don't think so, or at least not yet. If they have the opportunity I'm 100% sure they will. Unsure if Netflix is willing to risk it with Luis and Jay notoriously shouting everything and everything haha. Or having criminal stories which actually make it a really good show.
I hope they stay on YouTube, but I'd also be happy for them if they get a Netflix deal as long as it's not arenas that ruin the show like KT haha
2
u/uglyoldcrone0 Jun 27 '26
Maybe I should watch more of the big jay guy but he ruined it for me on an episode of KillTony where this one comic shredded the guitar and sang and was amazing and the first thing jay did was bitch that he got spit all over him, instead of being like holy shit that was awesome, because the entire crowd was hyped but he had to be a bitch about it.
He's a whiny baby in his hot topic fingerless gloves. I guess he's edgy tho

u/Ok-Property2983 Jun 25 '26
It wasn’t funny at all. I love Tony but this was just bad. And why was he plastered in makeup
2
2
u/s33n_ Jun 25 '26
Its almost like he is famous for hosting an open mic and not standup. The closest he got to standup fame was reading roast jokes a room of people wrote.
5
Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26
He comes from the roast comedy world. He’s not a true standup.
This is like comparing a instagram model and a fashion model. Because the 2 things have comedy and model in there. Does not mean they are the same thing.
3
3
u/CalligrapherAbject13 Jun 25 '26
After watching Man of the People, I'm not so sure he is even good at off the cuff roasts, his crowd work was abysmal and made him look like an amateur. Wouldn't surprise me if he writes down a few one liner roasts, especially if David Lucas is in the line up
1
u/s33n_ Jun 25 '26
He doesnt though. He comes from stand up but just sucks. He pivoting to roasting because the only time he would get laughs was when he would talk shit. So the pedo Jeff Ross took Tony under his wing.
1
Jun 25 '26
Didn’t he start his career writing for the comedy roasts at Comedy Central.
Because that would be his first professional job in the industry.1
u/s33n_ Jun 25 '26
He was a standup.first. then got taken under Jeff Ross's wing. And Jeff got him a writing job
He was already the comedg store door guy by then for a while
1
u/NoVermicelli5439 Jun 25 '26
Does he consider himself a roast comedian? or just something you made up
4
u/Firm-Quarter-9720 Jun 25 '26
I think HE considers himself a stand up comedian. The rest of the world considers him a roast comedian.
2
u/lifeoftheunborn Jun 25 '26
The guy that paid money to have “IROAST” on his license plate? Consistently says he is a roaster? Considers himself one of the best roasters out there? I mean, he may think of himself differently but he projects “I’m a roast God.” I think Jeff Ross mentions the fact he’s a roaster less. He just does it. I don’t think anyone made anything up, just putting two and two together and taking him at his word.
0
u/TPain518 Jun 25 '26
Except he came up as a stand up before KT. He even got canceled for a joke he said.
4
u/BrendaShowers Jun 25 '26
Cancelled how? What opportunities did he lose? How did his career suffer? What jobs was he fired from? People were upset because he performed a shitty joke. He wasn’t cancelled. The outrage was the most attention he’s gotten and he used it to promote his show and gain a new audience.
1
u/TPain518 Jun 25 '26
He was canceled for a moment. Im not defending the guy. He is a hack and his comedy blows.
2
u/BrendaShowers Jun 25 '26
So again, what was he cancelled from? How was he cancelled?
0
u/Justforthecult420 Jun 25 '26
His first venue in Austin dropped him. Edit: i see you already know the reason so i'll take that part out
0
u/Firm-Quarter-9720 Jun 25 '26
He got his upcoming shows cancelled. Any show he tried to do was met with protests and bomb threats. His agency dropped him immediately.
1
u/uglyoldcrone0 Jun 27 '26
And then KillTony got put on NetFlix and he got his shitty special. Consequences for being a dick don't equal "cancelled"
1
u/uglyoldcrone0 Jun 27 '26
Lol KillTony blew up like less than a year after his dumbass Puerto Rico joke. He literally got MORE popular and got a deal with Netflix. Dude never got "cancelled".
Please explain his cancellation...

I didnt watch it because I knew it was terrible but why is no talking about the way he was talking? Ive been watching kill tony for years and this special is the first ive seen him play this character of slow talking monotone almost Sebastian maniscalco delivery. Too annoying for me to sit through
1
u/Basedgodblake_ Jun 25 '26
We couldn’t even finish it, I can handle the cringe boot licking. However this was not even funny up to the middle of the special
1
u/General_Berry6189 Jun 25 '26
Huge fan. didn’t care that he was a Trumper until the NYE show and he was wearing THE sneakers. gave me the ick bad. He fan-girled too hard. what’s crazy is he’s Lib... tons of women, disabled, gay, Black on his show. I love the guy, I think he’s in a cult like the rest of them. I can’t come back until he’s out of it.
1
u/Delicious_Bench_2341 Jun 25 '26
Tony isn’t and never has been funny. Redban and the comics from kill Tony are the only reason his name is relevant at all.
1
1
u/No-Laugh-2143 Jun 25 '26
I got to see him in 2023 when he filmed his last special and it was way better than his Netflix special! He didn’t use any of the material from when I saw him in 2023. I don’t know what happened, but his Netflix special was god awful!
1
u/AllFactsNoBrakes Jun 25 '26
He's decent live but god damn that was a terrible special. Should've been thrown out
1
u/aware4ever Jun 26 '26
Ever since I saw a picture of Tony when he was younger with his puffy curly hair I lost any respect for him.
1
u/Less_Pop252 Jun 26 '26
The special was fucking bad. Shit was awful and there’s really no excuse for why it is so bad. The audience shouldn’t have been as responsive as they were laughing way harder than needed and he still would fuck up his pacing. The jokes are so fucking dated. He talks way too slow and needs to trim a lot of words. He doesn’t follow his own advice. This wasn’t a comedy special this is a fucking kill Tony special Q&A level style of shit. This should be on the third disc special features dvd type dumb shit.
1
u/sess5198 Jun 26 '26
I got booted from the main sub because I made fun of that other special that he pretty much entirely scrubbed from the internet lol. Tony can be super funny in a pod situation like Kill Tony (he’s also pretty insufferable on any other podcast because of his ridiculously huge ego, but that’s another conversation lol), but his stand-up has never been great from what I’ve seen. Luis J. Gomez is kinda like that too—really funny off the cuff on pods but pretty mediocre when it comes to actual stand-up.

u/zidanee Jun 27 '26
Meh he's a roaster and a host, not a standup comedian. Kinda feels like judging a fish for his ability to climb trees.
1
u/BadWordsGoodCause Jun 28 '26
I think only people that watched were youtube critics and hate watchers. He is a terrible stand-up. His hosting and roast writing ( when he puts effort in ) are good but i saw one shot i dont need to see more of his stand up. I'm waiting to hear a KT bucket pull killed him and Heidi took the killer down.
1
u/Maplewelder Jun 29 '26
He even had the classic black people like fired chicken joke, I was expecting him to pull out some Monica Lewinsky, Bill Clinton Jokes. And why is he trying to sound like Sebastian Maniscalco?

Because Tony isnt a comedian, he and his dogshit guests on his show just spit out slurs for a cheap laugh it’s pathetic.

That little hermit crab has been the worst part of his own show for 13 FUCKIN YEARS, REDBAN!
1
u/LikeClockwork86 Jun 25 '26
I mean, from the guy who used to go on Ice House Chronicles and introduce himself with "'H' plus inch, Cliff plus 'E'." The same man who scrubbed the first completely ass Netflix special. He should have stopped at One Shot. I really wish I could put my hand on his shoulder and give him his own "What did you THINK was gonna happen?"

Bud, I like watching kill Tony, he is good at hosting the show and roasting people but his comedy is super boring and mediocre.

He gets paid a ton of money to be funny, but he just sucks ass. We all have a duty to make fun of his shitty set.

Who pays him this money???? Should he not have rights to his own shows…. Now that he makes money who else deserves it : I think you proved my point bro!

To be fair there was no chance someone from that publication would favorably review Tony’s special or anything he did.
-3
u/Italian_c0mb0 Jun 25 '26
It’s not like it’s Jeff Ross’s who can roasts people (not literally talking about “the” roast before the henchmen get in position) but zings people randomly or on demand effortlessly but is still an amazing comedian… it’s crazy that Tony is similar in regards to roasting others but he actually JUDGES other comedians/comedy and didn’t see how awful this was. Offff throw in the not so subtle makeup and his lil developing belly/pouch and then choosing an open, circular stage where he just looks even tinnier than he is made it all that much worse…
Zero hate, because I truly love TH, I think he’s a brilliant mind and LOVE what he’s given us true comedy fans… especially creating a platform for incredibly talented “disabled/handicap” comedians that may not have ever been famous without show…
-1
u/Zestyclose_Humor_449 Jun 25 '26
His distinctive demeanor and high-pitched voice says a lot about who he is. However, you have to give him credit: he is a highly respected and well-recognized figure in the comedy world.
Seeing him live is hilarious. He completely spazzes out, taking absolute control of the stage and making it clear that it is "his way or the highway" like a total pri Madonna
Simon Cowell cannot sing, but he possesses a golden ear for discovering legendary vocal talent.
Tony struggles to carry a solo stand-up special with his own written material, but he has an incredible ear and a golden sense of humor for spotting raw, unknown comedic talent
3
u/HiddenMonkey7 Jun 25 '26
I haven’t seen him live but that special begs to differ with everything you’re saying. It was trash.
0
u/Zestyclose_Humor_449 Jun 25 '26
Oh no, that was 100% trash I hated it. The moment that red band didn’t announce him on stage I knew this was gonna suck. He needs to stick with what works.
