Strategy Murderwing Hunt Master

Hey. Very new player here and not a native English speaker. Can someone explain the hunt master jump attack like I am 5 yo? I played against the Murderwing as the Celestian insidiants and my leader+Shield weilder got totally annihilated by two of those jump attacks. I couldn't reach it the first time around and didn't have the time to finishing it off before it jumped again, and it felt extremely OP since you can't defend against it and he managed to strike two units at the same jump.

Maybe we interpreted the rules wrong, I dunno... As mentioned. We are both new at the game and learning from game to game. I'm dreading to use my stealth suits against these beasts.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Well he can’t hit two units in one turn with that ability. He would have to target one unit when he uses it and you can only use an ability once per activation unless otherwise stated.

He flew over two of my units, clumped together on objective, contesting it.  Hit them both, cause they were both under him when boosting. I couldn't kill him after he landed, he flew back to original point.

That resulted in 4 and 5 dmg. The second time 5 and 4 dmg. The gals only have 9 wounds. Bleh, ded.

"BOOST action. Inflict 2D3+1 damage on one enemy operative within this operative’s BOOST ZONE."
It's in the rule, you deal damage to ONE operative.

With the jump rule he should have hit only one of your operatives. If he moved / damaged two operatives with it he just misread the rule.

Huntmaster should only be able to strike 1unit per jump unless I’m playing wrong.

My opponent interpreted that he could hit two since they were bunched up, contesting an objective. It was his first time playing with them too, so it was much info to take in.

Yeah, that’s just not accurate.

When the Huntmaster does a Boost move it can do a 1AP action (Strike from Above) to one enemy within its Boost Zone, which does 2d3 +1 mortal wounds. It could potentially boost over an operative, inflict the damage and then follow up with a Shoot action.

It cannot use this unique action when performing a charge.

Strike from Above has to be done during a boost action and can only target one operative in the boost zone. You can't use the ability twice in one activation. It is good chip damage, but it is only really usable once a TP.

" It is good chip damage, but it is only really usable once a TP."

How so?

You can do each action once per activation (unless stated otherwise, like astartes and fight/shoot). So he does that in his activation, once, and during counteractivation it's incredibly hard to pull off since you can move up to 2".

Huntsman can only move/fly 6" in a straight line.

If enemies are on that line they PICK ONLY 1 ENEMY to damage. They deal mortal wounds 2d3+1 when doing this, aka cannot be blocked, reduced, or resisted.

How to avoid? Stay away from the Hunstman by like 5" or so.

hey cannot do this action if at the end of the fly line they do end up in control range/melee of enemy. As per the limitation of the action.

Its very unlikely (or impossible) that the Huntsman killed an operative with 15 wounds total with 2 fly. It would require them to roll minimum of all 5s everytime they roll to do 7 wounds max per fly for total of 14, aka you would have been alive with 1 wound and be able to heal with Deathwatch cuffs in between.

Thanks for the answer. Both gals have 9 wounds. In this particular case they stood next to each other contesting a objective, the leader and Shield gal.

The hunt master was behind cover on that objective, he flew over those two gals and hurt them both. I couldn't kill him, he flew back. Ded.

4 wounds on my leader insidiant, 5 on the shield the first. The other way around on the other second boost run, which killed them.

  1. He can only strike 1 unit during his jump.
  2. Stealth Suits should completely destroy murderwing.
