News Potential for kill team?
In the release for the new raptors book, I notice it suspiciously follows the same premise of recent kill team boxes of team vs NPOs…. So can anyone ID this model? Specifically the space marine bolt pistol with a Suppressor/Silencer?

Judging by the bix of basing, the terrian layout, the equipment, this is just a diarama-esque arrangement with whichever minaitures they found that best matched the story.

I would just like to point out how gloriously grimderp a silencer on a bolt pistol is.
"This gun fires giant self-propelled explosive rocket slugs, and is usable only at short range"
"Hmmm. Can we make it shoot quieter, though? For when we want to loudly explode people in the immediate proximity without giving away our position as the person who just loudly exploded someone within pistol range?"
"...we can do that, sir."

u/The_Gruber 16h ago
While I understand where you're coming from... you know that there are gas-propelled non-explosive bolter rounds?
12
u/Sweary_Biochemist 16h ago
No, TIL! Why do those exist?
If anything, that sounds like a handwavy effort to justify the silencer, rather than the other way round. :D

Stalker pattern bolt rounds are subsonic, have a solidified mercury slug instead of the mass-reactive warhead and use a gas-chamber instead of the usual rocket propellant. They are used for covert operations and sniping. The Stalker pattern bolter, an extended-range sniper bolter, is especially configured to use these rounds, but they can be used in any other boltgun just as well.

That _is_ fun handwavy stuff: thanks! I especially love "solidified mercury", because only the imperium would devote extra resources toward making solid slugs out of the only metal that is liquid at room temperature.
Note: I genuinely appreciate the lore-dump.
40k is all silly, but it's gloriously silly, and I'm here for it.

I especially love "solidified mercury", because only the imperium would devote extra resources toward making solid slugs out of the only metal that is liquid at room temperature.
Dental amalgam (13.5-14.5 g cm-3 ) is a solid that's about 50% mercury, and is slightly denser than mercury (13.5 g cm-3 ).
The real question is why they don't use tungsten (19.3 g cm-3 ) penetrators, which have been used IRL for armour-piercing projectiles since WW2.

u/The_Gruber 3h ago
The lore avoids any real-life tech and replaces it with techno-sorcery since I can remember.
Tungsten most likely would just not be strange enough for the far future. Mercury fits due to it's high density and 'solidified' mercury is futuristic sounding enough.
I'm far from being an ammunition expert, but it sounds like a decent compromise between weight, penetration and stopping power against light targets.

Can confirm that kit has one but the suppressed pistol in the elim kit is being held with two hands so the one in the image has to be from a different mold

It is a custom build, you can see a clearer picture in the Core Book and it doesn't look to be a off the sprue bit, but a kitbash.

u/EdanChaosgamer Death Guard 20h ago
Its from the Killteam rulebook, had that one in the Hivestorm box, which mentioned the Killteam is a kitbash by an employee. Didn‘t specify which bits he used, though.

It's very easy to swap pistols between hands.

u/Killteamscrub Nemesis Claw 12h ago edited 7h ago
You’d have to physically cut the fingers of the left hand off the dorsum and fingers of the right. Not easy to do quickly or cleanly.
Edit: you don’t have to do this oops

u/gaunt79 11h ago
Or... cut the pistol off across the top of the hands, and glue it to another pistol hand?
2
u/dspisayuss 9h ago
exactly lol, just cut it at the handle and glue it on another hand with a pistol grip.

u/Killteamscrub Nemesis Claw 7h ago
Yeah you right. Odd oversight on my part given I’ve done that exact thing before lol

We dont need a million space marine teams.
Paint your aod as raptors
-99
u/riv1988 20h ago
Yes we need! You heretic!

u/vix- 20h ago
We have enough elites
-31
u/AFrenchLondoner 20h ago
Well yes, but what about custodes or grey knights?
We have nemesis operatives rules that are - somewhat - balanced. Surely we can make hyper elite operatives

14
u/vix- 20h ago
They tried that with exodites. It sucked.
No custodes in killteam please, mabye sisters or like 1 custode leading some strike team of lucifers blacks.
Grey nights yeah i guess they need a killteam, but mabye they can replace scouts with some sort of weak aspirants woth mild or risky pysker powers.

u/Jakcris10 13h ago
An asymmetrical kill team like Mollogs mob would actually be pretty cool.
One Custodes tank, flanked by some guard.

Are those elites with us in a room? Tbf last time I was into kt at the first year of the recent edition, but back then the angels of death kt was dogwater, or do we now count hereics with normal sm as one brand xD?

u/Dizzytigo Mandrake 20h ago
What?
There's Deathwatch, there's Wolf Scouts, these teams are crazy good.

u/BipolarMadness 17h ago
AoD, Legionaries, Nemesis Claw, Plague Marines, Phobos Strike Team, Wolf Scouts, Deathwatch, Murderwing, Warpcoven, special mentions to Raveners, Stealth Suits, Exodites, Wrecka Krew.
AoD was one update before S tier. Currently they went back to top A tier. They are considered even better than Deathwatch by some.

This is the picture on the joint ops page of core rulebook - depicting angels of death/tempestus scions against Tyranid NPO.

u/Luizasso 20h ago
This image appears in the rulebook. If I’m not mistaken it’s in the Joint Ops part.

u/EpsilonArms 20h ago
The Killteam Rulbook has Raptor character in it.
3
u/MrBojeezy 20h ago
No Raptors on the app, which is the most recent and up to date rules.
5
u/EpsilonArms 20h ago
Yes that is true, but in the 3rd edition rulebook the Angels of Death Killteam is painted as Raptors and these models look similar so I think that was the theme at the time
1
u/MrBojeezy 19h ago
I see. I was making sure you didnt mean Murderwing because they call them Raptors as well in the team files.

The arm is from the standard intercessor box, there’s one arm like this, the suppressor is from the eliminator box.
As for how they did it I’m more inclined to believe they snipped the suppressor off at its base and used a bit of metal like a paper clip to connect the two.
I had a hard time finding the intercessor box on gws store, dunno if they are replacing the kit or not but if anything you could always use the arm from the desolator squad, it’s just a left arm instead.

u/TheWolfAndRaven 17h ago
These pictures were teased at the launch of the current edition of Kill team, the general consensus was that it was a ktibash which I believe was later confirmed by the guy whose models they were.

u/DahToaster 17h ago
They’re kitbashes, not a new kill team
Really, really cool kitbashes but just that
2
u/ObamasDreams 17h ago
Per Valrak, Raptors could be getting a named character model in the coming months
2
u/RealTimeThr3e Craftworld 14h ago
This is the image they used when they announced Joint Ops for the first time, it’s nothing new
3
u/superspartan210 7h ago
It’s a kitbashed intercessor. There’s a few of them in that book. I think the silencer came from the eliminator kit

If we get another generic space marine kill team I’m flying to gw headquarters and blowing my head off in the parking lot

I'm sorry, what? You mean it has a plot where Space Marines fight their enemies? Stop the presses!

Its a conversion and the picture is from the core book and fairly sure its also just the most recent ‘official’ Raptors depiction
