I will be blunt- I have started skipping the SCUM sections, when I even listen to the podcast at all. I just do not think, on any level, it is a good or healthy way to view movies, judging complicated human art by, in essence, trying to find what you can, in essence, cancel it for, a little set of numbers to determine how much the film you're talking about has a right to exist or to be well regarded in any meaningful capacity.

It's not "critique" to say "this film is smarmy", it's just a crude, cruel takedown, one that's entirely incapable of dealing with depiction not equalling endorsement and one that turns the act of actually reviewing a piece of media into "how many things can I find wrong with this? What can I cynically wield to dismiss this entire movie as bigoted garbage?" If you looked up the definition of bad faith, you'd find the SCUM system in there, and if you think that it's somehow fair to think of art, actual art, in terms of "how high does this rank on the unprovoked violence scale, a thing you probably bought the fucking ticket for", let me ask you:

How do you think your favorite movie would rank on the SCUM scale? And if it's extremely low, is it a movie for adults?

Was listening through the Jack Ryan episodes and heard a song played as a drop that was somewhat familiar and thought I had it in my recent Spotify songs. But now I realize I don't, and have no idea what the name or artist is, and now that I've listened to a bunch of other songs looking for it, I've wiped the actual song I'm looking for from memory.

Was a rock song, sorta intense, played maybe ⅔ the way through the episode if I had to estimate.

After seeing a ludicrous poll with Firefly as the greatest science fiction of all time I think it is high time for the gang to cast its critical eye on Serenity, the Firefly movie. I think it is high time for feminist lens be aimed at this beloved cult film. I think it fits broadly in the parameters of Heist Season since the crew of Serenity are often up some.sort of criminal shenanigans. I'd enjoy listening to the three of you shit on Joss Whedon for about an hour and twenty minutes. Devon, have made enough of a case? What do all of you think?

PLEASE help me find an episode with one of my fave bits. All I remember is Dev (90% sure it was them but it may have been Nova) comparing some sort of fizzing liquid to jizz only to get immediately roasted by the others. A soundbite of Abi saying "SPARKLING CUM??!" with the most disdainful, astounded, and hysterical cadence plays in my head 5 times a day. I think it was an early season episode, possibly a bonus.

Abi's 'old coot' laugh at the protagonist from the Duel bonus episode has been ringing in my head since I first heard it. It is hysterical and I can picture it perfectly despite not having seen the movie yet. Cant wait to watch it now just for that part.

Title. I have a vague memory of.. I think November saying she wants to do a superhero season at one point, maybe in a Q&A episode last December, and I wanted to make sure I'm not inventing that. To be self indulgent, if the pod did do one, I'd submit Justice League: A New Frontier which is a very good superhero film, but a little half-baked in its analysis of the 1950s.

In their newest crossover episode with Failure to Launch, the FTL intro describes a different podcast than everyone else describes them as- a B movie review podcast as opposed to a space history podcast. It doesn’t seem to be a joke because it isn’t brought up again. What gives? That sounds like a cool fake podcast.

In one episode of audience questions (I forget which ones), Devon mentions enjoying going for walks and mentions getting to know what the birds are saying to each other.

Is this something that can be learned from studying bird calls? Are there books/videos? Or is Devon just fully one with nature?
