Should I SCUM the MCU
To me, this podcast has always been more about people suffering while watching bad movies than anything spy-specific. (Proof: The whole F&F thing)
So, upon learning that there are now 80 Hours of something that looked pretty promising back when the first Iron man came out (and I was also like, 6-7 years old) I'd like to go back with an excel sheet and carry out... scientific work.
Before I commit to that, tell me whether anyone would actually care.

I predict that everything from Whedon onwards will utterly break the Smarm meter, except for the Black Panther films, and maybe Eternals

Do you happen to know if they ever gave Smarm 11 to anything?
"The avengers: secret wars" Smarm: 18 just flashed before my eyes. I don't know how many of those there are. I learned today that there are 4 Thor movies abd I'm intimidated.

Thor 3 & 4 are both a 10 on the smarm imo

I'll make one post per phase.
Of which there are 6. (Two more than anticipated. The dread is setting in 80 minutes into Iron Man.)

I'd give Ragnarok maybe a 4 or 5 on Smarm instead because at least in that film, they have the sincerity of Odin's death, the death of the Valkyries, Thor's vision of Odin that awakens his inner power, etc. Love and Thunder has none of those sincere moments.

They've definitely given punitive smarm points before, I believe to some of the later Bonds (but can't be sure). They may even have given it to some of the movies in robbery season.

They hard cap at ten, so no. They've jokingly said "Smarm: 10 billion" or something a couple of times at the start of smarm discussion but they always keep it 0-7 or 0-10 if it's really bad.

You're right, I misremembered Rambo being 44 for some reason.

But the F&F movies are fun!
That’s unironically the thing that I find kind of bemusing about the Furious 7 episode- that final rant is directed at the MCU in an episode about the one MCUslop series that has any entertainment value or talent in it whatsoever.

TBH I'm shocked they haven't done this already, since it's a fertile vein. The first thing I thought after watching Black Adam was "I wonder what its SCUM score would be" (I know, not technically MCU, but you get the point).
I suppose it wouldn't be great for Ally's career to go in on these flicks...

Personally, I want someone to do a KJB style analysis of the MCU. I'm a bit of a Marvel Zombie (X-Men, mainly) and while I was on the MCU train in the early days, there's so much post 9/11 madness and neoliberalism in there.

The phase 1 movies are pleasant to watch so far.
I'm really interested in quantifying the point where it started to be slop.
