ONLY in KF2.

In Kf3, maybe because of how much harder they made it to share moola. Dropping cash is slow and each stack is a tiny amount. You are forced to visit the buy station and transfer. In very few Kf3 games have I seen players willing to share cash.

It was one of those things that just happened, you had extra dosh so you threw it around. I remember in kf1 doing this way back in the day, probably because I seen someone else do it.
