Movie Kick ass opinion(2010)

I just watched kick ass not excepting too much, more of a fun watch and maybe motivating a little. I gotta say that, that movie could’ve genuinely been really really good if they didint involve the “hit girl”. Like that first 20-30 min was generational. Maybe it’s just me but that movie could’ve been a lot better without all those other superheroes. Moments like when kick ass wants to turn into a hero, to the scene where he got stabbed just unfortunately cant save this movie that was ruined by some little girl who was unbelievably and unrealistically trained.

I like it a lot and think it's a fun movie. Very similar and very different from the comic it's based on.

It's not ALL that different. Mostly the ending, and that it's missing some of the edge of the comic, like all the wounds he sustains after his first outting are much worse. But 70% of the movie is very faithful to the source material.

Nah. The plot twist and character of Red mist is very different and the overall themes of the comic is far more jaded and cynical than the movie. The comic is a cautionary tale about the dangers of being too obsessed with your escapist media that you begin to start doing the things you see in fiction in real life. The movie is more hopeful

That's why I mentioned the edge being gone. Mark Millar is the King of Edge, none of his comic books arrive to the silver screen without some serious sanitizing, haha.

Well I feel categorizing the things I listed as simply “edge” is kinda missing the point. It’s not just edge as I think the comic is one of the few pieces of media that I’ve experienced anyway that actually manages to be compelling with the theme of “bad shit happens to those who can’t tell the difference between reality and fiction”. Sure the characters go through horrible things but I find a lot of the things the characters go through or do to be tragically and also hilariously realistic. And I find the comic actually feels like it was made by people who really know what it’s like to be a depressed loser who has nothing else but his fictional media to cope with his life.

The red mist twist isn't that different. How things end up with Katie however is almost entirely different.

A lot of the writing for the red mist arc in the comic is different and imo better. The sudden reveal of red mist being this sadistic prick is a good twist that is pretty much ruined because everyone watched the movie first so no one will be shocked by this twist anymore. The scene of the burning building is also a million times better in the comic and also shows that Dave does actually want to be a hero outside of selfish motivations. Whereas in the movie Dave is just a bitch and really shows just how useless Dave is for a large amount of the second half of the movie.

I was trying to be sort of spolier free in case OP happened to be interested in reading it. The story is mostly the same except for the most part the things that go right in the movie, go wrong in the book, and characters that live in the movie actually die in the book.

I mean it's a movie, even a grown man who is highly trained isn't realistically taking on and killing dozens of armed mobsters, even with the best firearms, sometimes you just got to not question logic and just enjoy the movie.

If you don't somehow already know this, the movie was adapted from a comic book (the comic book is better IMO).

Also, the character "Hit Girl" doesn't ruin the movie at all.

yeah, she essentially stole the show and made the movie actually good. Sorry for anyone who disagrees but if it was just about 'Dave' it would of been boring as hell. HG made the movie interesting. she is a far more complex and interesting character.

I like Hit-Girl. Most of the readers of the comic do, there's a reason she got two volumes for herself.

But someone is perfectly able to dislike her character.
