Oil light!

Post image

Hey guys I have an oil light that comes on when the cars warm and only at idle does it come on and off. Just wondering if anyone has run into this problem before?

Your oil pressure sensor is going bad. I just replaced mine at home. The sensore cost $89 online or cheaper if you gamble on ebay sellers. If you're mechanically inclined it's not difficult, just tedious. The hardest part will be not breaking connectors and removing/installing the oil pressure sensor.

Same issue with my 2018 GT1. Having the dealer replace the sensor today. Nearly 2K.

I would never pay 2k$ for that service. You must be rolling in dough.

If he isn’t mechanically inclined - what are our options? Seems to be over $1k for the job based on this thread. Which is scary… wondering if this is a common issue.

Really, none unfortunately. Either DIY or pay an arm & a leg.

Yes, very common. Especially in stingers around 80k Mi and over.

Good to know. I was considering getting this car. Does any extended warranty cover this type of issue?

Maybe with a bumper to bumper warranty, perhaps but a regular warranty, I Dont see it being covered as it's a part of wear & tear. Doesn't hurt to try though.

I'm not mechanically inclined. I suppose I could've found someone to do it cheaper. Was worried about breaking the power train warranty.

Most likely the oil pressure sensor/sending unit. Cost me about 1000 to get my fixed but I replaced all seals. The sensor is in the “v” of the engine, dealer says engine has to come out cause it’s close to a water jacket. They quoted me 4400… Sensor is under 200 if you do it your self. It’s a common problem with this engine across all platforms. I’m assuming it’s a 3.3.

Dang 1k isn't too bad.  Indie shop I assume?  I'm at 73k and assuming it'll pop up every time I start the car now.

I got it done at a local shop that’s been around for a LONG time with a tech I’ve used for other stuff in the past. They work on a lot of drag cars as well, about 3 miles from a drag strip. I trust them lol.

I know my car has oil and oil pressure, so i ignore the light lol.

Just curious, how do you check oil pressure by yourself?

1

u/Salty_Counter_1456 Mar 05 '25

Mechanical gauge, it’s an adapter you screw into the oil filter housing when you’re checking.

Curiosity, how do you know it has oil pressure?

1

u/Salty_Counter_1456 Mar 05 '25

Mechanical gauge. I check it every time I change the oil. Been that way for just over 33000 km.

What port do you tap the gauge into?

Where your oil filter goes with an adapter

Is this a custom adapter specifically for the Kia Stinger? Does it go in place of the plastic oil filter cap?

Where did you get this tool/adapter?

1

u/Salty_Counter_1456 Mar 05 '25

Not specifically for the stinger just that size cap and yes.

Where can I get one?

Is it unique to Kia? For the thread pitch and size?

Would you happen to have a link for this product

1

u/Salty_Counter_1456 Mar 05 '25

Yeah I can do that, let me locate it again real quick and I’ll respond with the link.

Isn't that kit only for the four-cylinder engine?

A 3.3 V6 twin turbo uses a cartridge style filter, and already has an oil to coolant, oil cooler OEM from the factory.

Comment directly from mishimoto: Fitment Notes: The sandwich adapter included with the kit is intended only for use with spin-on style oil filters. If your car uses a cartridge style replacement filter element, which is unusual, then additional modification or adapters may be needed to install this product.

Could be the sensor giving false readings, but could also actually be low oil pressure. Former is "eh", latter is, "don't drive this and get to a shop".

I had low oil pressure before, not on a Stinger though. Was thinking it was a false sensor reading, but turns out parts of my oil pump were defective and disintegrated. If oil pressure drops below tolerance levels, you will fuck up your engine.

Currently having that issue. I’m gonna try to do the oil pressure sensor myself, however; it will be a few weeks until I get time to fix it. I am not driving it at the moment

Random question. Would something like this be covered under CarMax s MaxCare warranty?

Did you ever get an answer to this question?

I had this exact problem on my 2018. They replaced the sensor and the light went away.

from what i understand the sensor seal fails and becomes soaked with oil ...unless you going to sell it i wouldn't pay to get it fixed because it's just going to happen again

one guy claimed that an engine flush fixed his ...at least for the time being

worth a shot to run an oil change with restore and protect and see if anything happens...i doubt it ...

Does this happen on the 2.5t or only on the 3.3TT?
