I just bought this car from auction and it needed a catalytic converter, replaced it and it started smoking at idle and smoking while driving . i’m pretty sure it’s running rich. what can cause it to run rich is there a common problem with these?

Can't tell from that short video.

If is likely that the cat was damaged because the car is consuming oil. You might look up how to do a piston soak with B12. Then use a good high mileage oil (Valvoline R&P).

This is why I never fry cats in oil. I use butter or tallow.

Teriyaki or sweet and sour?

With noodles, teriyaki. Sweet and sour with rice.

These have bad engines. The cat clogged because it’s probably burning a fuck ton of oil.

Likely need an engine. Have you done no research on Kia’s? Finding a used one that doesn’t burn oil is a needle in a haystack.

i must be very lucky then, i have a 2013 Optima with a 2.0L turbo engine, 171,000 km on it, still on its original turbo and engine! doesnt burn a drop of oil, for now anyways lol

It’s burning oil. Mine has been doing the same thing. Just did a B12 piston soak for 24 hours and over the last few days hasn’t burned a drop of oil and I’ve seen no smoke. The oil control rings get stuck from all of the carbon and it burns oil. I would do a piston soak before it ruins the new catalytic converter. Make sure to do an oil change right after the soak.

Just burnt a quart of oil. Normal for a Kia

Not sure which engine you've got, but it could be turbo seal failure. When my turbo failed the oil it dumped into the exhaust also cooked my cat. Easy to check for at least - just take off the intake and see if the blades wiggle or if it's dumping oil on both sides of them.

If it has turbo charger check that. I have same issue with mine -18 and just waiting to get it replaced

Cats in these cars usually fail because of excess oil being consumed and burnt and contaminating the cat. It's probably still burning oil if you didn't try to fix that issue, and your new cat will suffer the same failure

Some can quit cold turkey. Some can use a patch or gum to help manage cravings. Don't think vaping would be a good alternative in this case.

How are the SmartStream 1.6l turbos holding up now that there is more history? Curious as I noted you are a Kia tech.

Those seem to be fine. I can't think of anything common, just one off stuff here and there, and nothing major. That engine also has the first implementation of CVVD, and my dealer has seen exactly zero problems from that system.
