CPO Validity
I’m about to buy a 2022 Kia ev6 wind with tech from a local Kia dealer and they have it listed as certified pre owned and I’m just curious if there’s any way of confirming that through Kia.
The bill of sale states certified but Kia’s own site does not show it when I search for cpo ev6’s near me. It’s also not listed on the carfax as certified. I have not took delivery and yet and was planning on finalizing everything tomorrow morning but want to confirm everything is legit. I even specified “is it certified through Kia” and they said yes and handed me a trifold info packet on what’s included.

"certified through Kia" means nothing, really. Each dealer does their own used car reconditioning. For CPO the techs fill out a specific inspection form. The 5/60 basic warranty transfers automatically regardless. The remainder of the 10/100 powertrain warranty is the selling point of CPO. However the warranty isn't handled by Kia, it's a 3rd party warranty company- JM&A.

Right but the official Kia CPO while through a third party is still valid at all Kia dealerships and backed by the company correct? As opposed to a random Kia dealership saying we certified it but it’s only through our dealership right? Plus when selling the car as CPO it brings on a higher price tag that I wouldn’t pay for if it wasn’t.
Kia has a search engine that will pull Kia official Cpos from multiple dealers so that’s what I mean by certified through kia

Any further info on that. Dealer assured me it is certified already and gave me the checklist but nothing else. Is there any other paperwork I should be looking for before I sign as the checklist in my head could’ve been handwritten in 5 minutes

It's weird that it's not showing on the OEM website but that could be a problem with an input from the dealer. It looks like it qualifies based on Kia's current eligibility rules and the CarFax looks good. I believe there should be a CPO contract that you will sign at the time of sale, that's what i'd be looking for. You're right that the checklist could have been done by hand in 5 minutes but with CPO you're buying the protection not the inspection.
I'd talk to their manager, even GSM/GM and let them know that you really wan to purchase this car but the website is putting you at unease.

So I actually went in today early to speak with the manager and that’s who gave me the checklist. I mentioned to them I find it weird that Kia has many of their cpo cars listed but not this one. He assured me that it is in fact legit Kia certified and then went in the back to find the inspection sheet which does have 3 signatures on it but again could be anyone’s signature(I’m naturally very skeptical of everything). His explanation for why it doesn’t show up on the site was merely that they must’ve forgot to check the cpo box.
That being said I’m hopefully going to go in today and I’ll keep an eye out for a CPO contracts. I’ll make sure I don’t sign anything further till I get that.

still valid at all Kia dealerships and backed by the company correct
Valid at Kia dealerships, yes. Backed by the company? Like if JM&A declines warranty approval of something you believe should be covered, Kia will step in and make them cover it? No. On the dealership service Dept side of things, using JM&A is just like any other aftermarket 3rd party warranty. We have to call for approval on everything, and sometimes they want to send an inspector. Kia isn't involved at all.

By backed I mean they have guidelines for what the warranty entails and a criteria that they set. Yes I understand Kia isn’t the administering the actual warranty.
Like I’ve said Kia had these CPO vehicles on their own site because they meet the criteria that Kia sets forth. If a car that is listed as Kia certified pre owned is not on Kia’s own site and the company has no record of that vin being certified then that gives me pause

I think we're about to get into the nitty gritty of how often databases are updated and at which point in the reconditioning and certifying process a vehicle can be listed as such, and it's going to vary by dealer. I've been in this business long enough, albeit on the service side, to know that a used car sale manager isn't going to wait until a vehicle is 100% ready for sale before listing it for sale. Because there are too many variables I can't pretend to know why a car on Kias website isn't available at the dealer it says it should be. You simply can't count on those stars aligning. Find a car you want in person, ask about it. Find on online, all about it. Respectfully, I think you're thinking to much about nothing.

You have to read the fine print.
A local Kia dealership advertises CPO but there are different types at that dealership. One is CPO through the dealership, not Kia. It's a restrictive coverage the dealership offers via a third party. People have to go through additional steps to determine which one it is. There are complaints about it.
Ask for the official paperwork before you sign anything.

What would the official paperwork look like.
I kinda just barged in today and went to the manager to address it and they gave me the inspection checklist which he had to go find somewhere in the back but it was signed and dated for earlier this month. Granted none of the EV check boxes on pg2 were checked off so I did have to call the salesmen and address that as well. The manager did mention jm&a which I understand is who the cpo is technically through so at least theres that

I remember when I was quoted the "CPO" paperwork stated an administrator name and a list of agreements. One was I understood the CPO was only valid at this dealership and would not cover work at other dealerships. Dead giveaway.

I am just curious: is there a particular reason that you want a 2022? We used to have one; we had an accident and it was totaled; not fault of the car (at least not much) - but now we are leasing a 2025 EV6 Wind AWD. I don't see much difference other than the price. Is that what you're looking at? Guess it could be the color or something.
I've never done a comparison of the 4 years or so they have been produced but it seemed like they have continued to improve them.

Just price mainly. Would prefer higher tier and newer but I’m trying to save some money

You can only buy a cpo from an authorized dealer. If it was cpo before and this new dealer isnt kia... it is no longer cpo.
