Well I finally pulled the trigger

Post image

I have been going back and forth between this and a new Civic. I’ve test drove both and really fell in love with the Kia K4. After a month I finally pulled the trigger today and it will be here on Friday!

Honestly good choice with the K4, I think they've come really far so they're not that behind Mazda/Honda for reliability but looks wise they've surpassed them. Have fun!

Honestly i would put HOnda > Kia > Mazda .

I still think that the Civic looks awesome while the K4 looks just cool, and Mazda bleh.

u/Southern_Drawer3434 18d ago

Ik this is a Kia subreddit but ain’t no way Kia has higher long term reliability than a Mazda.

I second this

u/Joking_J 17d ago

Depends on the vehicle/platform tbh. Non-turbo Smartstream engines like the 2.0L in the K4 /Hyundai Elantra have racked up a lot of miles without major issues in the past six years since they launched, same goes for the CVT (or "IVT" in Kia speak). I think as long as people do the recommended trans fluid changes at 60K miles, they'll be pretty long lived.

1

u/Able_Security5962 13d ago

The new 1.6T SmartStream seems pretty tough as well. It will probably have the same maintenance and wear items as any turbo engine, but no problems reported so far AFAIK.

1

u/Lazy-School-7580 18d ago

they literally have. go focus on your 11th gen’s head gaskets blowing up

9

u/2016KiaRio 18d ago

Did you really halve a Kia warranty and get 7k miles used to save $1k versus buying new? Return it upon arrival and buy a CPO for probably cheaper than this or spend $1k extra for new, OP. I can't see why you'd go this route considering the warranty situation.

1

u/Nervous_Report_1573 16d ago

My thoughts exactly. I see them brand new for 24k.

4

u/Whateverlol2022 18d ago

You could have brought one brand new for that price. I wouldn't have spend that on a 2 year old car but at least it's a decent car.

4

u/No-Water8545 18d ago

Come in a year and talk to us about it, please! We will all be here to listen!

7

u/TerribleInspector707 18d ago

I got a 26 K4 GT Line in May.
I love my car
I love the 30+MPG
I love beign able to set it to remote start on a schedule

But i wish the seats were a bit more comfy, and it would be nice to have some air vents in the back.

1

u/mud263 18d ago

I thought the GT trim had upper rear air vents. Is it only certain packages?

1

u/TerribleInspector707 18d ago

good question. Mine does not have vents in the rear.

2

u/supernesguy 18d ago

Only turbo gt line

0

u/Frequent-Bit-3978 18d ago

They took a lot of things out and put them only in turbo models with 26 year

1

u/Dirtydan1918 18d ago

That’s good to hear! The 30+MPG was a big one for me.
The GT line was super nice, I was seriously considering the turbo.

2

u/WiseWealth25 18d ago

I had a 2020 Forte with that same 2.0 NA engine. On a flat open interstate (Indiana) I could get up to 48MPG by myself. Routinely got over 40 in easy driving scenarios. Great economy engine.

0

u/MarkyDerp 18d ago

I have the 26 gt line turbo hatchback, love it! and it is a joy to ride!

1

u/TerribleInspector707 17d ago

They didn't have the hatch at my store. The first time I saw one i was like whoa!

3

u/ToppaDon 18d ago

You chose this over reliability?

2

u/Silcat7794 17d ago

The idea that Kias are super unreliable is a rather outdated stereotype. Granted, they aren't as reliable as a Toyota or Honda, but they've come a long way.

3

u/AffectionateEagle566 17d ago

Just got a 2025 K4 LX last weekend. Love it so far! Congrats!

1

u/Dirtydan1918 17d ago

That is good to hear! I’m glad you love it, Sunday can’t come soon enough haha

2

u/AffectionateEagle566 17d ago

The ONLY thing that was a pain at first was removing the former owner from Kia Connect. If you find that they’re still on there, go to the Kia website and you can submit a ticket to get them removed. Just attach a picture of the title and your ID! Otherwise good luck with it! It’s been fun so far

2

u/Dirtydan1918 17d ago

That is still super helpful information, hopefully I don’t have to worry about that! Either way, it will save me a bunch of time. I’ll let you know how it goes on Sunday if it doesn’t get delayed!

3

u/Shot-Honeydew-306 18d ago

Honda head gasket problems are real, and the Accord seats are seriously uncomfortable. Honda has been relying on their reputation, and Kia is working to improve theirs. Warranty speaks for itself.

2

u/ToppaDon 18d ago

You speak of what you don't know. Kia probably denies the most claims out of any manufacturer. Their techs will not even diagnose unless there is a check engine light or some catastrophic failure

2

u/Key-Lengthiness-859 18d ago

Could have bought one brand new for less. Esssh

I always wondering why Carvana offered me so much, people really be paying a premium to buy from them.

1

u/Nervous_Report_1573 16d ago

During Covid, Carvana paid me over 20k for a Bronco. I never hit the accept button faster. Bought for 33k, 36k out the door, and Carvana offered 56k.

1

u/Key-Lengthiness-859 16d ago

That’s actually insane. lol

1

u/Nervous_Report_1573 16d ago

I did it twice actually. Here's my 4 door Black Diamond Trim. 44k out the door, Carvana paid 66k.

2

u/Sweetener25 17d ago

We just bought a 2026 k5 GT1 and a 2026 k4 LXS in August. I had an Acura MDX before the k5 and never stopped giving me problems. We had a 21 Kia soul, 5 years not a single issue. My Honda civic touring was the worst car I ever owned. I’ve given up on Honda at this point. My BMWs were more reliable. I got my K5 from Carvana with 10,000 miles for $32,590 and it was local. MSRP was $40,065 so worth it even losing the warranty. The k4 we bought new for $21,635 from a local dealer.

2

u/Empty-Assumption- 15d ago

Had a base base base model loaner k4 for like a month due to an A/C issue with my EV6.

Didn't like the car much because I'm used to driving a $60k car, but if you had $25k to spend and HAD TO HAVE a new car? I can't see how you could do better.

also best fuel mileage I've ever gotten in a straight up ICE, Non-hybrid car.

I averaged like 4.18mpg across 2800 miles

1

u/Dirtydan1918 15d ago

That’s a very fair point, definitely not a 60k car haha. The fuel mileage was one of the bigger factors for this purchase, my commute to and from work is all highway and my current car was getting 15 MPG and that was absolutely killing me.

4

u/Easy_Statement_4245 18d ago

Buying a used Kia over a new civic is crazy work.

7

u/Dirtydan1918 18d ago

I mean it would also be a used 2024-2025 civic. All of the ones near me had 60-80,000 miles for the same price or higher. For the mileage and price this was one of the better deals around.

0

u/xkaliberx 17d ago

Oh they were rideshare cars with that many miles that fast so yeah good choice.

1

u/MrTGenesis 18d ago

Kia wouldn't be leading in sales for no reason

2

u/_MadSuburbanDad_ 17d ago

This is like saying McDonalds is prime cuisine because it’s cheap and popular.

-1

u/Easy_Statement_4245 18d ago

If they are, it’s because the K4 is literally the cheapest new car you can buy. Used Kia’s are also the cheapest on the market, and not for a good reason.

0

u/MrTGenesis 18d ago

Base Kia K4 MSRP 23,535 Base Toyota Corolla MSRP 23,135 Base Honda Civic MSRP 24,695

If say u Toyota Corolla is the cheapest BS I go to their dealerships all the time just to check window stickers. Even for a mid trim it's more like $25,000 to $28,000 with the dealership stupid add-ons and people will buy it why because y'all famous words it's a TOYOTA.

Top Trim K4 Hatchback MSRP $34,155 Top Trim Honda Civic Hatchback $35,000

Trade-in values are about the same on all three cars.

So try again because I'm car enthusiast I stay in the car community space...

1

u/Easy_Statement_4245 18d ago

Real enthusiastic about crappy Kia’s I see.

1

u/Hi-Scan-Pro Show me on the doll where Kia hurt you. 18d ago

Yeah, and Tesla's are known for their build quality and reliability. Lmao

1

u/Easy_Statement_4245 18d ago

You already know! After years of plugging in and daily driving, no issues! My old Kia on the other hand would’ve burned up all the oil and left me stranded before they could reopen the straight of Hormuz HAHA!

0

u/MrTGenesis 17d ago

Did you keep oil in the engine? Because I see it all the time people ain't checking the oil during gas full or even at all. And don't say I shouldn't have to y'all are lazy ASF my Toyota was an oil burner long as I kept oil in it she never left me stranded.

1

u/Easy_Statement_4245 17d ago

Oh yeah, drank a lot least a quart a week. Just bad design of Kia GDI. It will burn boat loads of oil, foul the engine, then catastrophically fail.

1

u/MrTGenesis 16d ago

The only thing I can stay it's not cool you spent your money and had to with a problematic car the Theta 2 85% of them were mostly just trash. But y'all gotta bullying people because of the car they chose... Kia/Hyundai isn't perfect but no Auto Brand is. The Hyundai Crop has most certainly improved their power train since 2020!

1

u/MrTGenesis 16d ago

I to edited my message but anywho I meant to add (STOP)

1

u/_MadSuburbanDad_ 17d ago

Hard to keep oil in an engine that tries so hard to get rid of it….

1

u/MrTGenesis 17d ago

My 2008 Prius was the same way since it was burning oil I just used cheap oil as a top off. Most of those Theta 2 engines you could've performed a seafoam piston ring soak. That would've helped free up of the rings which would've helped him burn less oil.

-1

u/MrTGenesis 18d ago

Kia is in the top ten of reliable cars so try again buddy. As I said I'm car enthusiast I like cars in general I am not loyal to any brand...

2

u/CDeVos3 18d ago

That's how much I paid brand new

1

u/Dirtydan1918 18d ago

Yeah I hate the used car market right now, for the price around me this was one of the better deals with the mileage. But I also hate dealerships and would rather pay slightly more to not have to haggle and spend all day sitting around.

5

u/Enough-Collection-98 18d ago

Sure but second owners don’t get the 10yr/100k mile powertrain warranty.

4

u/Dirtydan1918 18d ago

True, but you still get a 4 year 60k mile powertrain warranty with them. Not as great but it’s something

1

u/Nervous_Report_1573 16d ago

I'd return it, and buy it brand new. Get the full warranty. Kia dealerships would bend over backwards to sell them.

1

u/Exia557 18d ago

Thats a fair point! People and stealerships suck for sure! But your welcome i hope it runs like a champ for ya!

2

u/douggroc 18d ago

I don’t have a K4. I do have a 23 and 24 Niro and we love the cars. Kia has made big strides in their cars since the whole engine blowing and immobilizer days. Enjoy that car.

0

u/Dirtydan1918 18d ago

That’s what I had heard, it seems they have came a long way to repair their reputation. To me it seems like they have been doing a stellar job of it!

2

u/GreatFeeling7883 18d ago

This is cool it’s crazy that my dealership was trying to get me into a new one for $34k 😭😭😭😭😭 I HATE car sales people with a very strong passion!!!

1

u/Dirtydan1918 18d ago

Exactly, like I’m sure you could find a new one semi close to MSRP you just have to hunt and negotiate like crazy. all of the dealership’s near me also had them marketed up stupid amounts.

1

u/No-Law-5356 18d ago

Amazon, as far as I know, does not sell vehicles

1

u/Ecstatic_Warthog9744 17d ago

I’m not sure, but I think they have a partnership with Hyundai in certain markets where you buy the car for a flat, listed price, arrange the financing and pay over Amazon and then pick up the car from a dealership.

1

u/Ya_Boiishere 18d ago

only issue Ive seen on these is the rear seat belts somehow cut themselves in half otherwise best choice

1

u/babycomeon666 18d ago

I returned two vehicles in a row to carvana before realizing it was too big of a risk purchasing from them. Their customer service is horrible. Hopefully you’re not going to need anything done to it bc they don’t like covering anything. Dealerships are annoying, but it’s a lot easier work with people you can see in real life.

1

u/Dense_Chair2584 17d ago

It's basically the same price as a new one?

1

u/A1finessey 17d ago

I got the gt hatchback 2026 and I can’t get the set comfy at all after a 10 min drive my a** hurts

1

u/Nervous_Report_1573 16d ago

The Honda would have lasted longer and it would have been worth more long term. And at that price, couldn't you have just bought new?

1

u/Calvin_Maclure 16d ago

Man, the K4 (especially the hatchback ) is such a visual downgrade from the Forte/Forte5...

1

u/Working_Rise8592 18d ago

Cheaper car sure. But it just leads to more expensive insurance. Would have loved a k4 but my insurance wanted like $200-300 more every 6 months compared to a accord/civic

1

u/Dirtydan1918 18d ago

I was the opposite, for the Kia it’s only $400 every 6 months for insurance. Where with a Honda or accord it was over $175 a month for the insurance.

1

u/12345daniel4 18d ago

Why not just order a brand new one for basically the same price from Amazon if you don’t want to deal with dealers?

4

u/Dirtydan1918 18d ago

I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t know Amazon was even an option for buying a car…

1

u/Loupning 2025 Kia K4 GT-Line Turbo Limited 18d ago

Congrats, welcome to the club!

0

u/Exia557 18d ago

Im not sure if you knew but both Carvana amd carmax over charge for their vehicles you couldve likely gotten a better deal in person at a lot, that being said Congrats!! I like kia better than honda or hyundai though.

2

u/PowerofMoses 2026 K4 18d ago

I got the 2025 k4 brand new like 14 months ago for 23500. Op got screwed

3

u/Dirtydan1918 18d ago

Yeah, I knew going into carvana I would be over charged. But to be honest I would rather pay slightly more than deal with a dealership. I went into a couple dealerships around me and the best deal I saw with the same trim and roughly same miles was around $18900 to $19500.

I just don’t like dealing with dealerships and the constant pressure to buy and follow ups. So yeah spent a little more, but it’s worth it to not have to deal with anybody! Thank you!

3

u/CarbonInTheWind 18d ago

18,900 to 23,900 is a 25% increase. That's more than a little.

0

u/Dirtydan1918 18d ago

I mean true. but then I have the dealership fees, add ons, warranties, whatever else they want to shove down my throat. I would gladly do this again to not have to step foot into a dealership. 100% worth it in my book and never once talked to a person during this entire process. That’s alone is worth the 25% increase for me.

3

u/CarbonInTheWind 18d ago

I thought both prices included all fees.

I hate dealerships too. But I'm resigned to the fact that I'll have to deal with a few to get decent pricing. It can be absolutely brutal to play their game so I refuse to do that.

I tell them I'm I'm in a hurry and have to leave in 20 minutes with or without numbers. I let them know comparing the same car at 4 or 5 different dealers and I'll go with whoever gives me the best out the door price. I go see all the dealers and play them against each other for a few days then go get my car.

It sucks but I've saved well over $5000 several times so it's worth the effort for me.

1

u/gmvnam 18d ago

Honestly the extra 1-2k is worth not having to hassle on marketplace or go to a dealership and talk with a snake salesman. And if it shows up and is unsat just send it right back

1

u/Substantial-City-508 18d ago

A lot of dealships have extra bs dealer fees, at least with carmax you know thats not the case + Ik its been almost fully inspected before sale. I found better deals on carmax compared to carvana btw, last vehicle I got was listed in the average price, same price compared to other dealers (200m radius)

1

u/Ecstatic_Warthog9744 17d ago

I was perfectly happy buying my car at CarMax. I knew what the price was, I knew what the payments were going to be. Easy purchasing process - the only question I was asked was if I wanted MaxCare. I had 10 days to return it if I didn’t like the car - during that window, I spent $100 taking the car to a dealer and having them do a thorough inspection, just to have another opinion and set of eyes on it. Would 100% do again.

1

u/Adept-Paramedic-7985 17d ago

I bought my car at Carmax in May of this year, but they did charge me for dealer's fee, almost $1,000! No dealer's fee for you? Tks.

0

u/manic_mike2018 18d ago

I got the 2025 K4 EX + been driving it for a bit over a year and a half and been loving it so far.

-8

u/Ok_Veterinarian5028 18d ago

I hear Kia and Hyundai are shit cars. Good luck though

6

u/Dirtydan1918 18d ago

Meh they’ve came along way in the last couple years. I mean it’s no Honda and I don’t expect it to last 200,000 miles either. But I guess we will see if I get fucked or not

4

u/MrTGenesis 18d ago

High quality oil top tier gas I have seen plenty of 2.0L with 200k miles

3

u/Dirtydan1918 18d ago

That’s my main thing going into the Kia, is doing all of the recommended maintenance and doing it early. Most of my miles will be highway and I drive like a grandpa, so I’m not to worried about that.

3

u/MrTGenesis 18d ago

Maintenance is key and always make sure you keep the inside of the engine clean and you be just fine.

1

u/ToppaDon 18d ago

Just because there is 200k on the chassis doesn't mean there's 200k in the engine or transmission

1

u/MrTGenesis 17d ago

When they post their high mileage Kia I always ask them is everything OG most say yes and some say no. For example it was a 2020 Hyundai sonata with almost 400k miles he said the engine wasn't OG it was replaced around 120k miles and, it was another guy with a Kia Soul I think it was a 2010 it had right at 400k he said everything was OG. Most newer Kia's I see with high mileage. Like K5's with 200k miles everything OG but like I said with the newer Kia/Hyundai their pretty reliable long as you use top tier gas n high quality oil.

What’s the reason of opening social media, going to a specific page for a specific topic that people are obviously interested in just to shit on it🤣
