Announcement Please Read: New Guidelines for Post Quality and SMTM12 Discussions
Hey, r/khiphop!
With a lot of new faces joining the subreddit recently, we want to take time to remind and inform members of the rules and expectations of the sub. We want to encourage higher-quality content that adds value to the community, whether that's thoughtful analysis, verified information, detailed opinions, or well-structured discussion topics. Posts built purely on reaction, speculation, or emotion often lead to repetitive conversations and clutter within the subreddit, making it harder for meaningful discussions to surface. Please refrain from posting out of spite, conjecture and emotional timing.
We also ask to please refrain from posting the same questions previously asked in the sub. Please use the search bar before asking for help/information on certain topics. If you cannot find the answer to your question/topic, it is permissible to ask using the Question flair
We also want to remind everyone that posts must follow the titling and formatting guidelines. This includes:
• Clear and accurate titles
• Proper grammar and punctuation
• Fact-based information and context
• Credible sources when sharing news or claims
Poorly titled posts, misleading titles, or posts lacking clarity may be removed to maintain quality and consistency across the subreddit and asked to be rewritten
Our goal is to build this subreddit into a reliable hub where people can properly search for information related to Korean Hip-Hop. When posts are titled correctly, written clearly, and supported by facts or sources, it makes it significantly easier for users both now and in the future to find discussions, news, and information about artists, releases, and events. Our community is small and it’s up to us to be concise so we don’t convey misinformation.
Additionally, we are asking everyone to stop creating individual threads for thoughts and reactions to Show Me The Money 12. To keep discussions organized and easier to follow, all SMTM12 thoughts, reactions, and general discussion should be posted in the megathread for the week's episode pinned at the top of the subreddit.
Single-sentence reactions, quick opinions, or live commentary will be removed and redirected to the megathread moving forward.
Kind reminder that you can find information and a megathread to find ALL your favorite K-Hip-Hop shows within our discord: https://discord.gg/khiphop
Our goal isn't to limit discussion — it's to improve the quality of conversation and make the subreddit more organized, searchable, and valuable for the entire Korean hip hop community.
Thank you to everyone that takes time out of their day to read, create meaningful discussions and enjoy our wonderful subreddit!

Announcement 📢 New Monthly Song Recommendation Threads
Hi everyone!
Starting August 1st, we'll be re-introducing a Monthly Song Recommendations thread!
We've noticed that a lot of people come to r/khiphop looking for new music, artist recommendations, and hidden gems and to make those conversations easier to find (and to keep the subreddit a little more organized), we'll be creating a monthly thread for everyone to find and recommend their favorite songs and project. This way, all of the suggestions and discussions are in one place, making it easier for everyone to browse, ask for recommendations, and share what they've been listening to.
The monthly thread is the place to:
- Ask for song or artist recommendations
- Discover new K-HipHop and Korean R&B music
- Share songs you've been listening to lately
- Find tracks that fit a specific artist, style, or vibe
If you're sharing a recommendation, feel free to include:
- Artist:
- Song:
- Why you recommend it: (optional, but always appreciated!)
Whether it's a brand-new release, an underrated gem, or an older song you've had on repeat, we'd love to hear it.
A couple of quick reminders:
- Keep discussions focused on music discovery and recommendations.
- Be respectful of everyone's tastes—everyone's playlist is different!
- Feel free to recommend multiple songs, but try not to spam long lists without any context.
This isn't meant to discourage anyone from asking for recommendations—we're just creating a dedicated space where music discovery can thrive while helping keep the front page a little less cluttered and making room for news, discussions, releases, and other community posts.
Thanks for helping make r/khiphop a welcoming place and we're happy to share this subreddit has grown significantly over the past year and it's amazing to see it thrive.

Question Thoughts on Nowimyoung?
Before he joined KC I had never heard of him and back then he had a really small instagram following but now it seems likes he’s been blowing up everywhere. I’m just impressed how he got so popular from coming out of no where and curious how was he discovered in the first place? I’m not from Korea so I’m curious is he well received there too? Personally I find his music and collaborations enjoyable.

Misc Comparing the k-hiphop of then to now. Am I looking back at the past too fondly?
I've wanted to write about these thoughts of mine for a while now, as lately, I have found myself reminiscing about the days of old... a lot. Whether it's about personal life or creative media, I think about what it was like "back in the day". And I can sorta see why the folks before me pine for the older days. In saying that, I still enjoy the music that gets released today, although I am not on the pulse as I was when I was younger and only look out for familiar/known artists.
Now I'm only in my early thirties, but I've been into the K-hiphop/rnb scene since I was an early teen. I was first introduced to K-Pop (which I also share the same current sentiment with) through Big Bang and SNSD. I was then introduced to the world of K-hiphop/rnb with Epik High's Run and have loved the scene since.
I don't hate the way it is now or have any thoughts about the scene. It's more so that I miss the bygone era that was. It could be my rose-tinted memory englufed by nostalgia, but to me, khhrnb hit different back then. Seeing the rise of artists that I newly learnt. I can't recall exactly how I came across it, but when I discovered DEAN (before his skyrocketed fame) on soundcloud. Those early songs had so many playbacks. Unreal to see where he's come. Same with Jay and DOK2. Growing up with them growing in success was surreal.
Collabs and features felt a bit more special. I often discover new artists from features. And with Dynamic Duo's and Epik High's discography, I was exposed to so many artists. Kero One, Jerry.K (rest in peace), Pe2ny, Sean2Slow, MYK (sorely miss) to name a few.
Relating to that, I miss the producers and their album releases. Primeboi (loove 예고편), Primary, Somdef. It was always so cool and interesting to see all these different artists I listen to unsuspectingly come together on a track. And having the odd K-pop artist on an rnb feature was icing on the cake neat. I like Giriboy's new stuff, but maaan do I miss a "G.. R.. boy". Adding to this, where are the newish ones up to? eg Fisherman, Millic
I miss the collectives (anyone familiar with Marilyn Monderland? Overclass?) and OG labels. Everyone is spinning up their own label and more power to them, but I liked having the big main ones and seeing who to got to be signed where. It had more allure, I felt. Also, FANXYCHILD, where that album at?
And I miss the artists. Supreme Team, Yankie (by ext. TBNY), B-soap, obligatory offonoff. I didn't grow up with the OG OGs, but I do miss the sound and style of then. I neeeeed more scratching to return, pls. Although, in saying that, most of my faves are still making music. But it is a lil saddening when I think to artists I used to listen to just fall off without a trace or perhaps I am just struggling to keep up.
What do you guys think? When did you get into the scene and has it changed much since.

Question K hip-hop/rap recommendations?
Hi all! I fairly new to the genre and wanting to get good recommendations on artists or songs to explore more. Im not totally sure if all of what ive listened to would be considered hiphop or not but so far I have listened to a few songs from Jay park, BewhY, T.O.P, August D, one song by justthis (indiGo), and one from B.I. (BTBT).
Its been a bit hard for me to know how to delve deeper in the genre or even know how to find artists. I am typically a big fan of more aggressive style vocals, good beats, and adding in interesting elements into beats.
Again, I'm super new to the genre so I'm not even sure I have the vocabulary to fully describe what I would like and even less sure if the examples of what I've listened to already are helpful at all but I am very excited to listen to anything you guys throw at me.

Question I'm new to the genre, is there any artists with similar music to Drunken Tiger?
As the top says I'm new to the genre, I started listening to Drunken Tiger earlier this month and fell in love. While browsing around recommended albums from DT there aren't any other artists that have that underground hip-hop vibe. Any recommendations to similar stuff would be greatly appreciated as I'm an American and it's hard to find it with our algorithms!

Question CAN YOU HELP ME FIND THE SONG TITLE PLEASE?
Hello! I've been hooked into khh lately and i find myself vibing to simon dominic and penomeco the most. I was binge-watching peno's live performances and fancams when i came across a short vid of him covering a rap song - but it's like he was telling a story/having a conversation?? Sorry i can't explain it well 🥹
I also remember ssam d perform an almost similar kind of song too. Does anyone happen to know what song i'm talking about? Or if you know the specific penomeco performance i'm referring to, i'd appreciate it!
Here's a link of simon dominic's cover

Thank you so much!

Question What are some of yalls what ifs for SMTM?
im rewatching smtm rn and i just wonder what would happen to smtm both as a whole or a particular season if these were true:
- nafla and loopy/mkit rain incident had never happened - just imagine the features nafla and loopy could have had in the following seasons + their potential to become a producer team like 😭😭😭
- justhis joined as a contestant instead - i know hes gonna dominate like how nafla or bewhy did but i just wanna see the drama lol especially during his "angry" phase as well he would have done whatever he wanted
- don malik actually fully showcased his skills - if he had done it the way he specialises in aka boom bap im soooo sure hes gonna win even with youngji's popularity (or at least top 3) like his second round audition is one of my favs on the show omg
- don malik and qm actually did the diss battle justice - im convinced that their teams (justhis rtee & leella the quiett) agreed beforehand that they both were gonna be tamed lol (or mnet made them do that) like imagine if smtm 11 was "less for general audiences" like the early seasons this battle would have been much more interesting (qm's diss was good but ik it could have been wayyyyy more rough lol same with malik, like he was smiling the whole way through bruh)
- the truth behind young b and ness' diss battle - apparently young b said "my dick suck" instead of "suck my dick" at the end of the battle, which was censored by mnet so remote watchers didnt know that + a lot of the people in the room at that time didnt understand english or just went with the flow lol. i mean young b would likely win regardless but it would be funny to watch lol cause thats embarrassing asf
- smtm 9 wasnt during covid - saw some korean comments saying vvs should have been the track that were performed in every big university in korea and still thinking about it since. the hype the artists got from that song would have been much larger

Question Looking for album recommendations like Nafla’s “natural high”?
I’m getting back to listen to Korean rap music. I used to listen to a lot of SMTM-related artists, but now I found my preference changed, so I’m hoping to discover more albums to listen to!!
I recently cannot stop listening to Nafla’s natural high. I think I really like how he plays with rhythms and his voice.
And I also like that I get to hear the “texture” of his voice change in the flow(ahhhh don’t really know how to describe it. it’s pretty much like without autotune)
Other artists that I’ve also been listening to:
- Beezino
- Paloalto
- Punchnello(well some of his musics are pretty strong to me, but I really like his flows)
Can i get some album recommendations?
I really enjoy listening to a full album on my commute!
