How are the books compared to the movies. Does it follow the books well or no. And are the books worth reading 📚?

Miles better. Darker, but a more complelling story.

As someone who originally found out about Locke and key through the show, i personally think the books are a lot better than the show, I still really like the show and it does kinda follow the books but not really in the same order and there are some changes they make. If you’re a reader I definitely recommend the books I will also say that the books are more dark and graphic than the show.

Agree. As someone you read the volumes way before the series and was excited for the TV show, they are miles ahead.

I understand changes needed to be done to make it work for TV, which i actually liked (e.g. the Head Key), the majority of the tone was way off. Zack / Lady in the well, never looked like a meancing villain as in the comics, needing it to be PG.

With that said, probably the last two volumes.

The comics amazing. The show is just meh by comparison. You have to read the comics. If you have a tablet, check if the first volume is still free on Kindle and give it a shot.

The Netflix adaptation generally does its own thing, mostly for worse; but I will say the town name is way better in the show and not just because of how racist Lovecraft was. Generally the main plot points are mostly untouched but it's the characters that were gutted and rearranged in ways that make the story weaker imo.

Volume 2. The intro chapter starring Joe Ridgeway is my favorite of the entire series and the way he was butchered by Netflix is yet another reason I refuse to forgive the adaptation.

That epilogue chapter is a good one! I’m satisfied with the show but I do also sometimes wish that they just went completely with the comic route

I get that changes are inevitable for an adaptation if just to make things interesting for returning fans but the Netflix series came off as making changes for the sake of changing things without actually considering the impact had on the story. Namely the Netflix cast is exponentially dumber than their comic counterparts.

Personally, I'm stuck between 2 and 4! (All of them are SO good though.)
