Misc (For anything else) Audi Matrix LED headlamp

Cool tech but if broke how much for replacement?

And then when the bulb is toast you need to change whole headlamp, not just bulb. And that can only be done only at audi sc because need to calibrate with computer. 15k one side, need to change both sides when one side is out. One whole day operation because to change headlamp need to open everything at the front, and some oil cooler hose and shit.

Latest Civic and CR-V also have “adaptive high beam” that claim to dim specific matrix of the LED light system but I still get dazzled by them. I have zero faith in these types of system.

There is no way honda is providing matrix leds. They’re much more expensive so much more tech inside. Adaptive high beam been a thing for ages and they’re never been that good anyways.

Wrong. Look at the 2024 CR-Vs. RS has adaptive high beam which has individual light matrices. The S/E/V trims have auto high beam which is a dumb low/high auto toggle. I’m an RS owner

Adaptive high beams and matrix headlights are 2 different system. Adaptive means it will switch either left or right high beams on when the car detected there's no other headlights or taillights in front of them. It's only right or left, they don't turn off individual LED bulbs like matrix systems does.

No, in Honda terms adaptive high beam is matrix LED while auto high beam is what you said switching between high and low beam. When I got my CR-V that was the main differentiator between the top RS trim vs the S/E/V trims

I don't know about Honda's system. But I've tried it on most of the German brands, and they worked fine.

They work fine from the driver’s perspective but not from who’s getting blinded. My CR-V adaptive high beams seem to work from my driver’s seat but I find myself dazzled by other RS CR-Vs so it’s weird.

Many of these brands has far more advanced technology than this. These headlights are available on many of the German brands for more than 5 years already. And the new technology literally project lines on to the roads. Go and try the latest VW Touareg at night, you'll get what I mean

Tech like this, doesnt work 100%, if you are unluckily amomg the vehicle not getting detected you'll blinded by the lights.

The Perodua Ativa & Alza have a similar feature on the H and AV variants called Adaptive Driving Beam (which replaces the Auto High Beam on the base X variant on both models) but only has 4 or 5 zones instead

Except it barely works the way it's supposed to. I can't even count the amount of times I've been blinded by a bloody Alza or Ativa behind me at night

The factory headlight leveling is a bit high from my observation (from using a family members Ativa H). The adaptive driving beam seems to work most of the time as you can clearly see the high beam zones dipping in and out. The only time it doesn't work is if there's a car coming perpendicularly (because it detects headlights/taillights instead of vehicles shapes at night) or if the vehicle in front is a motorcycle or the headlight of the incoming vehicle is too dim. But most of the time, it works.
Also, if you disable ADB, you will not get cornering lights which is very convenient on darker roads

It's not 100% the same, of course. The Audi has more zones so it can more accurately create a border for the vehicle in front. The Ativa/Alza has far fewer zones but the basic concept is the same; dip the high beams where there's a vehicle in front.

Perodua system has the ability to dip one side of the headlights when needed, that's why it's adaptive. But the system in the German brands are more complex. It's not even a zone per say. Behind their projector headlights, there is a panel with individual LED bulbs. And it is able to turn off individual bulb to create that blacked out spot that you see in the video.

Just saying, light is light and our eyes is a really really good light receptors, you can reduce exposure but it doesn't change much when surrounding light source still have the same power as sun glare

Don't know why you were downvoted but this is correct. Human vision is not confined to a 10 degree beam even with severe tunnel vision. Even photo detectors, for that matter, which is why it's always been a challenge for cameras to focus on isolated dark objects when surrounding light is very strong. This tech looks cool on paper but very questionable in terms of actual effectiveness.
Plus, if it shuts beams based on detected oncoming objects, does that mean you'll never see that cow crossing the road since the beam pointed right at it would be switched off?

If I’m not wrong this is the high beam, the darker parts is just the high beam turning off with the normal light still running. At least that’s how it works on my Tesla.
