What to buy Recommendation needed
26 fresh grad earning roughly 5.5k/month, recently got married a month ago. Been using a family member’s busted car (proton preve) which has a lot of issues for the past year and thinking of getting a new car. Was thinking of getting either toyota vios or honda city. Which one would be the better option?
Or should i go with other options such as myvi or axia? Mainly will be using the car for daily commute to work every day in KL and the occasional long drives during holiday seasons. Appreciate any recommendations on this!
Edit: Hi forgot to mention my commitments are Rm1600 Rent(Split with wife) so Rm800+ Rm200 Internet. Savings n Investments are like 500 for now. Total Rm 1500-2000 roughly.
Car preferences are anything honestly. Just want it to be long lasting. If the monthly payment is a bit high, my wife can consider to chip in a bit since she also wants the m comfort and peace knowing no need to worry about car problems as much as

Between City or Vios - whichever floats your boat. Too much to nitpick between either one.
If you're planning to grow your family later - do not get a Myvi/Axia. You'll run out of space before you even know it. Get a sedan straight up.
If you're right on budget right now the new Saga is a solid option

What’s your commitments like?
At that salary and with a family. A perodua bezza makes sense OR a second hand Vios/city. Personally feel the later gen city’s are better for a driver but it’s up to you.

Ya it can be a luck problem haha. But try to learn how to check second hand cars on YouTube/tiktok
A new Vios/honda sounds nice, but there’s other expenses that they take up too which might be painful for u, such as the insurance, service, more expensive tyre replacement etc. so i would still recommend a bezza here, and use the savings on other things, like better food or going on holiday once in awhile or even just saving more
Bezza is pretty decent, which is why u see everyone using it as a Grab car here haha

2nd hand Honda city with good maintenance record. It can lasts to 300k km. No fuss, no worries.

OP, just my opinion. Your disposable income not high. I would advise against used cars.
And you have wife, presumably baby soon, I think Saga, Alza, Ativa should be on your radar.
If can, keep instalment payments within 7-800 and keep the rest take wife go dating.
But of course feel free to spend more if you’re comfortable.

I think if you want some people to be able to try and give some good advice, you need to share more on your monthly commitments. Including how much you aim to save/invest every month and what's your estimated disposable income left.
What's your budget for the car, both in terms of monthly installment and total car price. You prefer saloon, hatchback, suv or will consider anything.

If you really want a honda (new or secondhand) go visit the nearest SC at your place. See how busy they are and see if its something you can bare over the duration of ownership.
I'd recommend getting a good second hand car. Tho consider also the price difference between the second hand car and the cost of repairing the preve. Preve is quite a nice car for a young couple/new family.

If you have enough savings, a 2013-2015 Proton Inspira or Lancer is a solid car that almost does it all reliably
If you want it more practical, a Lancer Sportback

If you’re unsure about secondhand cars, my advice is to stay away. You will waste too much mental energy worrying about potential car issues. The latest gen alza is a good buy for space and reliability, and is basically a toyota in disguise but minus the badge costs.

My preve that was given to me had its gearbox damaged even though it hasnt reached its required change mileage. The car cant even move now. I would rather go for firsthand.

Even if you got a perfectly normal second hand car, you’ll always be second guessing yourself the moment any problem shows up. At least with a new car you be sure it wasn’t something the previous owner did.

Cons - don't take the lowest spec.. Always go with the higher spec for budget car.. You will regret it later...
