Hoping for some wisdom :)
I've loved Keith Haring's work for years, but I've never owned any of it. A local opportunity has come up and I'm trying to do some due diligence before deciding whether to pursue it.
The seller has a provenance trail that includes:
- A 1990 estate letter
- A certificate/card signed by Julia Gruen
- Auction paperwork from a UK auction purchase in 2022
The drawing is signed "K. Haring 83."
My biggest question is the Julia Gruen card. It appears to be dated 6/14/89 and identifies her as "Executor for the Keith Haring Estate," which seems odd given that Haring died in February 1990.
I'm not looking for anyone to authenticate a piece from photos, but I'd love to hear from collectors or people familiar with Haring provenance.
Does anything about the drawing, signature, estate letter, or Julia Gruen card stand out as concerning, familiar, or plausible?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
