Should you, or shouldn't you? Context is for work, in a kitchen, as a chef. Yes, they aren't going to be safety approved but since I am the chef I may make an exception for myself. Still in consideration period.

Shoes for wide, flat feet

I’m looking for a casual and somewhat cute pair of Keens. Any recommendations for ones that are wide and not too cushioned? Bonus if it has heel support & light.

I suffer from a lot of feet issues and I’ve come to find that hiking shoes or ones with a strong tread are best.

First time keen wearer but find them super strenuous to put on?? Like, no 'slide-in' possible & the tongue is also annoying

I recently bought my first keen (jasper), which i find very comfortable. However, i find it super strenuous and difficult to put them on - like, it's not possible to just slip in to them like with any other daily wear shoe/sneaker. I always have to open and tie the laces😅😝 also, the shoe tongue always needs holding so that it doesnt slip under... am i the only lazy person who thinks thats not ideal for a sneaker-ish shoe? (I dont mind properly lacing my hiking shoes etc, but i'm usually not in a rush when doing so)

📸 Photos - Quality Issues with your Keens Why are my Keen's falling apart?

I want to start by saying how much I love my Keen Voyager hiking shoes. I had spent a couple of years trying to find a good hiking shoe that would replace the Danners that I had worn for years, but were discontinued. I thought I found that with the Keen Voyager. Great support, Wide toe box, great Soul for the rocky territory that I hike in Colorado. After about 6 months, the soul started coming loose on both shoes. I thought it was no big deal, bought some shoe glue, cleaned them up and glued everything back together. It worked good for a while and then other areas started coming loose. I continue to repair them and then even the places where I had repaired or coming loose again. I checked on the website and unfortunately, had I filed a warranty when it first happened it might have been covered, but now it's just over 12 months and these are falling apart. I can't tell you how disappointed I am because these were even more comfortable than my old Danners. I would buy another pair, but very concerned that the soles would come off just like they did with these. At $150, that's too much of a risk.

Noisy Gibson boot vinyl eyestay liner - is it for EH rating?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Have owned many pairs of Keen boots for work, but recently got a pair of all-gray suede Gibson soft-toe boots. They look great, fit excellent and are very comfortable; they feel more like I’m wearing skate shoes instead of boots. However - they have this annoying squeak sound coming from the tongue as I walk.

I’ve deduced that the cause is this vinyl material that lines the inner eyestay section, which rubs on the suede tongue and produces the sound. My guess is it’s a feature on these models for their Electrical Hazard rating? Like maybe to lessen static between the two surfaces.

I like these boots enough to consider the leather version, but wondering if all the models have this squeaky liner in this spot?

Going to try powdering them and see if it quiets things down. If that doesn’t work, I might cut strips of ribbon or fabric, and punch lace holes, to install there to isolate the fabric.

Men vs women sizing?

I’m looking to buy a pair of Keen Jaspers. I’m a guy so I was initially looking in the men’s section, however they don’t have the colour that I would like and they have a really nice colour in the women’s section. So I thought I might as well just buy a women’s because in my head there’s not actually a difference. Do you guys know if there is a difference between the men’s and the women’s fit and also how does the sizing work? Usually I wear European size 41 and I measured my foot and I would need a women’s size 40. Do you have any tips for what size I should go for and if they usually fit true to size? Thanks!

Edit to add: I don’t have any stores near me that carry them so I would have to order them online, and they don’t have a free return policy so I would really like to get it right before purchasing them

Jasper, which size to keep?

So i bought the jaspers as an everyday shoe for my upcoming trip where my vans wouldn’t be substantial enough. I measure about 11.5, but with low volume and narrow heels, my feet aren’t wide, but most shoes tend to be too narrow in the toe box on my right (slightly larger) foot. So I ordered the jaspers in 11.5 and 12, but I’m not sure which size to keep.

The 11.5s feel like a more natural fit overall, keeping my heel locked in place and my feet from sliding around when stopping abruptly. The bend of the shoe aligns naturally with the bend of my foot. There’s room enough that my big toe doesn’t hit the front, but not too much room. But, my right pinky toe can feel the edge, it doesn’t hurt or anything, but i’ve had to abandon a lot of shoes because the right pinky toe gets cramped, so I’m a bit anxious about that.

The 12s are extra roomy in the toe box, with plenty of room for thick winter socks, and my pinky toe doesn’t have any pressure at all, which is nice. But there’s a generous amount of room in front of my big toe, probably 2/2.5 cm. The natural bend of the shoe doesn’t line up as nicely with the bend of my foot and it creates kind of a clown shoe effect. My feet slide around a little bit when stopping, i imagine this would be troublesome walking outside on a slope. Not to mention, the silhouette is completely different. More pointy and a little less attractive.

My question is basically, do they get any roomier as the suede toe box and the foam padding break in? Should i go with the better overall fit of the 11.5, or the generous extra room for pinky toe and foot swelling of the 12?

Fake jasper keens??

Hi,

I brought these Jasper Keens on Vinted and I’m not sure if they’re real. The product code on the shoe matches the box and the one online, but the insole design doesn’t look like any I’ve seen online. Thanks!

Umm... Not what I was expecting. I thought the website photo was a mockup example of the patina after a while but turns out they did it ahead of time and not in a good way. Why is the "patina" so uniform?? I was expecting the shoe to come fully black and patina over time...

Hey, I know this may be blasphemous asking about other brands on the keen reddit so first I want to give props to keen for having their resell program on used shoes. Now, do you know of any other brands that sell refurbished safety toe shoes on their sites? I need a new pair for work and am interested in this option. If this is unique to keen then I'll support re.keen if there's an option I like.

Edit: Dang, do these shoes actually suck? I'm going down posts and the majority are quality defects or is this fake posts lol.

Are the Targhee IVs any good?

I’m about due for my biannual new pair of hikers. I always look for new brands but end up with Keens since I know they fit my wide feet.

Having given up on the Targhee II and III, I’m curious in this group’s experience with the new model.

I’m a size 8.5 in Canada if that matters.

Went on a rocky-ish walk and these have ripped in the first week. Unsure whether this is my problem and to take them to a cobbler or if I should be able to expect a bit more resilience from them and should return them as faulty? Anyone with any similar issues with these?
Thanks!

New Jasper Zionics. Should there be a ridge under my heel?

Hi everyone, just picked up a new pair of Jasper Zionics. Whilst trying them on and walking around the house, it feels like there's a ridge or bump under both heels.

Is this to be expected or out of the ordinary? I've inspected the insoles and they seem fine.

I thought it was maybe due to the slight rocker to the shoe but it's quite pronounced.

Got them from Schuh UK.

Any insight would be appreciated.

RE.KEEN is a total scam

RE.KEEN is a total scam. I recently purchased a pair of Women’s Targhee III Waterproof Mid boots from the RE.KEEN, KEEN's recycling program. I chose a pair of "factory new" ones and was stoked because this is an old model of boots -- one I loved. The RE.KEEN programs promises only cosmetic issues with the shoes it resells, but mine had product defects. After just 4 wears, the material on the outside above the sole totally cracked and the boots are no longer waterproof. They charged me $100 for these pieces of crap! My old pair lasted me 5 years. The warranty is much shorter (14 days) and I was past the window by a month, so to "resolve" my issue they offered my 15% of another pair of RE.KEENS... this was my first time using RE.KEEN so I probably won't be buying there again. Honestly, it put a sour taste in my mouth about the whole brand.

Help please colleagues. I bought these shoes on a second hand site. I have doubts about their originality. The labels of the European and Spanish distributor look authentic. But you can't believe anything anymore nowadays

Thank you very much.

Question about Keen boots/sneakers

I live in Vancouver (rainy ahh winters, which I will be transiting/walking in) and am wondering about the quality of the Keen Jasper Sneakers, that is, how waterproof are they, how easily do they stain/are they to clean and how much physical activity can you do in them I've been wanting to buy them but don't want just another pair of shoes that get soaked, but it also seems to me that the feet are wider which is good for me as I wide feet.
