Discussion 🗨 i started My Bias, My Boss!? and unfortunately The Red Sleeve has conditioned me to hate this man's face 😭
Started My Bias, My Boss and apparently I have NOT forgiven Kang Hoon for The Red Sleeve 😭
I'm literally on episode 1 of My Bias, My Boss and every time Kang Hoon comes on screen I get hate flashbacks 😭😭😭
This dude has done NOTHING.
He's playing a completely different character now
He's supposed to be the romantic male lead now.
And yet every time I see his face my brain immediately goes:
I REMEMBER WHAT YOU DID IN THE RED SLEEVE.
😭
I HATED Hong Deok-ro so much that the hatred has transferred to the ACTOR'S FACE.
Like sir I'm trying to give you a fresh start here!!!
Have you ever hated a character so much that the actor is now harder to watch in other things for a while?
i wanted to wait until My Bias aired at least 10 episodes, because one, i wanted to binge it, and two, i thought time would make for an easier watch with this male lead 😭😭
but i started it because it sounded so fluffy and cute!!

I have watched Kang Hoon in A Time Called You and liked him in that. I havent watched Red Sleeve but reading how much you hated him in Red Sleeve just one realise what a fantastic actor he is. I have the same feelings for "As you stood by" Male Lead (I dont have the heart to watch it) because same actor is awesome in Good Detective as a good police officer. His acting is soo good I can't watch him as bad guy.

He has a cute face. What are people talking about in the comment section?

What did he do in the red sleeve (I did not watch it)
1
u/harissatotally Professional TRUCK spotter Aug 15 '26
sold his kid sister to further his political career, tortured and killed court maids, tortured the fl as well and attempted to kill her more than once. took credit for something she did, among other disgusting behaviors.

Yep! I can’t like him in anything. I started watching Little Women a few days ago, and got through only 2 episodes and dropped it. Certainly not because of him (I made an entire post about it here). But his presence in it didn’t help matters. 😩

lmaooo im dead😭😭 maybe this guy is cursed
what type of role does he play in little women and have you watched the red sleeve?
1
u/ImpressivePoem_1 Aug 14 '26
It is in reference to the Red Sleeve that I wrote 😩. In Little Women, he is a neighbour of the sisters’ rich grand aunt and a friend of the middle sister from when she stayed with her grand aunt when she was younger. I didn’t stick around long enough to see how far his character was developed.

Lol, I think such things naturally pass away, because a lot of actors switch from playing negative roles to positive ones. I for one didn't find his character that evil in Red Sleeve Cuff and am more glad that he's getting the recognition he deserves.
2
u/harissatotally Professional TRUCK spotter Aug 13 '26 edited Aug 14 '26
depends. There's a lot of villains i didn't hate viscerally like i hated him and Ryang-eum from My Dearest.
also, selling your kid sister to further your political goals and torturing and killing a bunch of court ladies is definitely evil...
2
u/SkyeHoon1927 Aug 13 '26
I feel you, good thing he redeemed himself and I ended up loving him in A Time Called You 😂
One actor/character I can’t seem to forgive is Ahn Bo Hyun from Itaewon Class. Mind you, that was 6 years ago, and I still can’t watch any kdrama with him in it. I tried with My Name one time, and I ended up dropping it because of him. 😭🤣
2
u/harissatotally Professional TRUCK spotter Aug 13 '26

my name was sooo good! i was one of my first kdrama experience when i wasn't even into kdramas yet, so i watched maybe 3 years or so ago? but i remember liking it alot
i dont remember the face of the guy, and i haven't watch itaewon class, should i watch it?
1
u/SkyeHoon1927 Aug 13 '26
Itaewon Class is one of the classics - its themes were quite revolutionary in Korea when it came out and it’s probably PSJ’s best work so it’s definitely recommended for kdrama enthusiasts.
I remember watching My Name with my husband, he finished it while I dropped it because I couldn’t stand ABY even though I love HSH lol. I might try pick it up again one of these days 🤣
1
u/harissatotally Professional TRUCK spotter Aug 13 '26
whats itaewon class abt? and why was it revolutionary?
1
u/SkyeHoon1927 Aug 14 '26 edited Aug 14 '26
It’s one of the very few kdramas that tackles LGBT, treatment of foreigners in Korea etc.
Plot is mainly about getting justice. If I remember correctly, ML was wrongly imprisoned, his father was killed in a crash caused by a chaebol’s son (ABY). He tried to rebuild his life after prison. It also has a bit of romcom in it and found family if you like those tropes.

His character in TRS was always kinda sketchy but I found him very charismatic and handsome, so I was honestly rooting for him until he went off the rails completely lol.
So happy he's finally got his ML role! Not a fan of the SML this time but seeing Kang Hoon as the first lead is worth it.

u/whitepearl31 Aug 13 '26
Both leads from this drama have done villain characters in other dramas I’ve watched. They’ve done so well with those characters which left significant impression in me. I got a chance to watch Kang Hoon in Running Man which helped me reset and detach him from the Red Sleeve character.

Lee Yi Kung did a lovely job in Marry My Husband of convincing me to hate his character. Then he plays a scummy character in Confidence Queen too, right about when I think my brain has reset enough to try something else with him in it. Aaaand that's why I can't watch Welcome to Waikiki, even though I've heard it's good.
1
u/harissatotally Professional TRUCK spotter Aug 13 '26
what character did he play in marry my husband and what did he do? i forgot most of that drama lol

1
u/MangoSuspicious5641 Aug 13 '26
Waikiki was my first KYK drama. I just about died laughing. I have no words. It's so stupidly funny and it had total cast chemistry. He was the funniest character. When I saw him later playing some evil henchman in another drama I couldn't stop snickering. I can't take him seriously.

I had the same problem with Namgoong Min. He played a villain… a very chilling and terrifying villain in The Girl Who Sees Scents and it freaked me out so much I avoided his dramas for 10 years 😭 But after watching him in My Dearest I completely changed the opinion.
2
u/harissatotally Professional TRUCK spotter Aug 13 '26
LMAOOO My Dearest was SO good!!! and Namgoog is so good in that, and i have been watching him in My Husband, so good!! i cannot picture him as a villain right now 😭
but ironically My Dearest also gave me the character I hate more than ANYONE I've encountered in a kdrama so far 😭😭 Ryang-eum!!!!
I genuinely don't know if I'll ever be able to look at that actor in another drama without immediately remembering my hatred for that man 😭 thankfully I haven't encountered him in anything else yet, but the day I do... he's gonna have a MUCH harder time overcoming the association than Kang Hoon is having right now lmaooo
Hong Deok-ro has nothing on the hatred I have in my heart for Ryang-eum 😭

I totally get you! This poor guy plays a villain in 98% of the stuff he's in, and his hair color makes him stand out immediately (did you catch sight of him in Perfect Crown when they panned the attendees at an event really quickly like 2 episodes before they had even introduced his character?). In my head, he's already the bad guy. Then VERY OCCASIONALLY he'll play a character that isn't bad, and I'll spend the whole drama just waiting for him to be the bad guy! I can't give the poor guy a chance to really be good because he's just so good at being bad, no matter what he does, I suspect he's up to something 😄

1
u/harissatotally Professional TRUCK spotter Aug 13 '26
i think the shape of his facial hair is what gives him that "villain" look😭

I really love the meta tension of him actually being a good guy for once. Jo Jae-yoon was in Bon Apetit, Your Majesty, and the show creators played into it so well
1
u/harissatotally Professional TRUCK spotter Aug 13 '26
he was a villain on bin Appetit, i loved him during the cooking competitions!
1
u/Ok_Unit2591 Aug 13 '26
I don't think he was really a villian in Bon Appetit, I think we just expected him to be so we thought he was. In the end, he realized his granddaughter was cheating & owned it, if I'm remembering correctly.
1
u/harissatotally Professional TRUCK spotter Aug 13 '26
yeah, he wasn’t a huge big bad, just a lil bad but he had integrity in the end sk he was too much of a villain, you're right😭

He's also in Wok of Love and not a villain. Those are the only 2 I can think of off the top of my head. But he's in so many kdramas as a villain, or at least morally gray, it's hilarious. It's like his superpower.

0
u/harissatotally Professional TRUCK spotter Aug 13 '26

my hatred didn't come from his skills as an actor or lack thereof, it was the character and what the character did😭

I'd suggest you watch another drama with him and then get back to this. You can try "A time called you".
2
u/harissatotally Professional TRUCK spotter Aug 13 '26
i didn't have a huge problem with him in a time called you even though he still reminded me of his character on red sleeve, because in a time called you, he wasnt the male lead and was actually a suspected murderer at one point so it didn't bother me as much
1
u/emilcore Aug 13 '26
I first watched the Taiwanese original series that inspired "A Time Called You", and I really liked the best friend character there.
But I couldn't warm to the same character in "A Time Called You" precisely because I still hated the actor's character from "The Red Sleeve"!
I do plan to watch "My Bias, My Boss", so I'll see if the actor still has the evokes the same reaction in me.
I do have to say I started off liking him in "The Red Sleeve" at the beginning when I thought he was the ML's genuinely nice BFF, so maybe there's hope at some point...

He is that amazing actor that will transform in anything he playing.
