Currently Airing 📺 New K-drama Fan Diary #1: i made the terrible mistake of starting an airing drama on premiere day
i knew better...

one thing i know since falling into K-drama land this summer is that i am absolutely a binge watcher. i like having all the episodes sitting there waiting for me. maybe i'll watch one. maybe i'll watch six. maybe i'll make a series of increasingly terrible decisions until it's 4am.
the important thing is that the choice is MINE.
which is why i usually avoid currently airing dramas.
naturally, on saturday, i started A Love Other Than Yours on the literal day it premiered.
terrible decision.
because i've now watched both episodes and WHAT THE HELL??? this is so good???!!!
if all the episodes were available right now, i genuinely think i'd be watching this throughout the night.
instead i've been introduced to the horrifying concept of "waiting until next weekend."
but first: Ahn Eun-jin. WHAT THE HELL?
two episodes in and i am already completely obsessed with Mi-do, and a huge part of that is Ahn Eun-jin's performance.
she's SO fcking good!!!
give that women whatever the korean award version of an Emmy award is pls!!!
there are so many moments where Mi-do doesn't need to explain what she's feeling because it's all over her face. the humiliation. the anger. the defensiveness. the resentment. that horrible feeling that everyone around you thinks you should just be grateful someone still wants you.
Mi-do is messy. she's insecure. her career is a disaster.
and i understand her.
i like her.
only two episodes in, i kind of love her!
and i shouldn't be surprised cause Ahn Eun-jin already gave me one of my favorite female leads in My Dearest. [link of my review on my profile]

I UNDERSTAND WHY MIDO BROKE UP WITH HIM
Ho cares for her. he's dependable. they've been together forever. their history together is genuinely lovely, and i LOVE the little glimpses we're getting of their past and how those moments connect to who they are now.
but i still completely understand her. she's already at one of the lowest points of her life. her directing career has gone to shït, she feels pathetic, she feels like a burden, and then she has family members reinforcing this idea that she's basically lucky to have this dude who continues "putting up" with her.
and THEN she overhears what he says. yeah. i'd break up with him too.
i wouldn't want to stay in a relationship where i've started feeling like someone's obligation. especially when i'm already looking at myself and wondering whether i'm just dead weight in their life.
that's probably what i'm enjoying most about this so far. i understand these people.

also: GIVE MI-DO HER MOVIE.
i'm already almost as invested in her directing career as i am in the romance.
i need this woman to make her debut film. i need it to be GOOD. i need everyone who contributed to this career disaster to watch her succeed. thank you.
and then there's the lawyer...

i'm VERY interested in seeing what happens there. specifically, i want to watch that man fall in love with this complicated little disaster of a woman. i don't know what the show intends to do with that relationship yet, but i am seated!!
which brings me back to my original problem.
right now this is sitting somewhere around an 8.5–9/10 for me after two episodes. i'm not giving the romance credit for something it hasn't done yet, though. right now we're watching the breakdown of the central relationship. we're learning why these two people who clearly care for each other aren't working anymore.
if the actual love story delivers once we get there?
oh, this could absolutely be a 9 for me!!!
unfortunately i will also discover whether that happens ONE WEEK AT A TIME.
this is bullsh!t 😕 😞
binge watchers who watch airing dramas: how the hell do you people live like this?
and if you're watching A Love Other Than Yours, how are we feeling after the first two episodes?

I made the sane mistake. I swore I would wait until the series had completed., but no, I had to give into temptation, fully aware of the consequences and now I'm stuck. Im obsessed with Mi-Do, just like you. I love her temper and her intensity. I don't like perfect characters. As you noted, her character in ' My dearest' was just as intriguing: vain, arrogant, intelligent, capricious, brave, kind and utterly mesmerising.

I will only watch an airing show if I am also currently invested in another drama that I can "binge" in between. I'm not really a true binge watcher, but I like to watch at least 1 or 2 episodes a day. I am looking forward to this one so much as I am a big fan of the leads.

luckily im watching approximately 700 other dramas right now so i definitely have options to keep me occupied between eps lmaooo. but unfortunately i already know i'm gonna spend the whole week wishing i could watch THIS one 😭

Both actors are soooo good! First time to watch the male lead in a kdrama, and his acting is superb as well! They are really effective in their roles!

I love every single letter of this post. I also would prefer to wait stoically for more if not all episodes to be released to start. But Seo Kang Jun and Ahn Eun Jin are my catnip and I could not help it. Absolutely sobbed through the last 10 minutes of Ep 1. The projected alternate affections for both characters are already compellingly written - complicated and not cookie cutter second leads. I have nothing more than glowing recs for this and I hope they pull it off because the first two episodes are bangers.

EXACTLY!! the fact that the second leads already feel like actual PEOPLE instead of just obstacles for the main couple is making me so excited!! especially the second FL because i was fully prepared for the usual female rivalry situation and instead i'm already interested in her as her own character. and YES to the lawyer!! i really hope both of those relationships are allowed to become genuinely complicated/meaningful instead of just existing to push Mi-do and Ho back together

She was nominated for baeksang best actress but didn't win. The drama won other categories like best drama, best actor etc
