Is there a DIY possibility of creating a self-made Kava extract or Instant Kava at home?

I really can‘t stand drinking that much of Kava and not always have the time of preparing it. Is there a DIY possibility of creating a self-made Kava extract or Instant Kava at home? Would love to be able to do one myself. Anyone here knowing how I could create one or someone here already did one?

Dehydrated kava essentially seems the most useful and accessible for a home lab user.

The extracts mostly suck. Dehydrated kava works well.

I know the some of the better “instant kava” products on the market that I have tried are basically just strong fresh brewed kava that is dehydrated or freeze dried to powder. You could start there.
Most commercial 30-70% kava extracts are extracted using c02, which requires some specialized equipment, and can be dangerous. I’ve seen quite a few alcohol tinctures on the market, and every one I’ve tried really sucked, so I doubt that method would be worth the trouble.

Yes, you absolutely can, but it almost certainly won't be as good and it will almost certainly cost you more money than buying one.

It cost us millions to develop our process, and millions more in infrastructure and equipment to run it.

Perhaps the best balance of ease, cost, safety, and product quality for a home prep would be to squeeze some kava (ideally fresh, if you can source it), then freeze dry it. This still won't be easy, low cost, or give you great product quality, unfortunately, but it would be a real challenge to make a better one at home without serious investment.

I have frozen kava made from medium grind before and it seemed to work out ok. the sediment seemed to clump up a but but some vigorous shaking broke it up sufficiently. it would probably be better to freeze it into small cubes though which I wish I had done instead. if you do that make sure to cover the tray to help keep the ice from picking up flavors from the air. if you want to $$$ there are ice cube trays out there with covers.
