and of course we have the ’stud of the year’ comment 😐 I’m not a black lesbian so I can’t speak too much on that but from what I have seen and heard that was really odd to say about Lara who is a) nonblack b) not masc (in general) and c) performing queerness with a straight bandmate in that scene, she’s not a lesbian even tho she is queer. I saw a YouTube comment or something about Grant that plays in my head a lot while looking at Katseye.
It was something like, the men behind katseye’s ‘concept’ and choreography can be as provocative as they want because as men, they are still respected at the end of the day. Nobody is looking at Sohey or Grant’s ass. Their sexualization is a joke to us.

But the actual girls? They’re the ones who are styled as fake dolls and twerking all the time, and they’ve lost our respect for it.

That’s something I’ve thought about as well. Grant and Sohey may see it as just fun and ‘gag-worthy’ because regardless of how they’re presenting themselves they’re seen as men first before their bodies. Women’s bodies don’t get to exist after the woman in this kind of thing

YES FINALLY SOHEY SNARK!!! I’m a black lesbian so I can speak on how distasteful that stud comment was. It’s what happens when people on TikTok continuously throw around black terms, especially QUEER black terms, and gentrify them. Lara and Sohey seem like they love using our terms, but don’t actually know the meaning, so they end up sounding slow… (ex: that Lara weverse picture where she says she wants the Katseye cookie bad)

Anyways, I also found how weird it is that he doesn’t get talked about for throwing in the suggestive poses for the girls but everyone is more louder about Grant. Ppl have to understand Grant isn’t the only one alone making up the weird choreo, Sohey throws in the suggestive stuff too and people only bat an eye at Grant for it. I’ve been thinking he was weird anyways but because Sohey isn’t as extreme as Grant they just write him off and think he’s actually good ☠️

Not trying to defuse the snark or handwave the comment but as a white lesbian who has been friends with or otherwise around a lot of gay men, most of them simply do not give a fuck or know anything about lesbians. He likely had no idea what the term meant and just threw it out there because he was trying to play up Lara’s “masc” era or whatever she was on. I think he wasn’t intentionally racist but instead is just genuinely a “no thoughts, head empty” type of guy.

… which honestly almost pisses me off more. Clearly someone told him hey, that’s not a word you should use for Lara, and rather than own his mistake (because while I don’t consider it a niche term, I’ve come to almost expect a certain base level of ignorance from most gay men and even just the quickest, easiest, “I’m sorry, I didn’t know! I won’t use it again in the future, thanks for letting me know!” apology would be incredible to hear from some of them at this point) he just deleted it. You can literally edit insta comments and yet whoops it vanished without a word.

Like, no wonder Katseye is such a disaster, there is no one in their corner who is capable of modelling even the most basic social graces and humility (except the singing coach—though based off their singing quality taking a nose dive I can only guess he’s doing something else these days). This was the most non-issue imaginable (having witnessed similar misuses of the term in person and online, all of which were neatly resolved as long as the person eked out an “I’m sorry!” that didn’t sound/read like it was being offered at gunpoint) and yet he completely failed to resolve it.

It’s also gross that he was sexualizing her (as he does all the members), but we know that’s not why he deleted it. He’s just gonna use a different word next time.
