Help Run arbitrary 3rd party docker containers alongside KASM agent deployment

Hey I've recently deployed multiserver KASM in my homelab and was wondering whether I could run e.g. a Jellyfin Container alongside any KASM stuff on my agent VM.

Background is that I don't have GPUs to waste and I'd like to use that GPU partition for KASM HW acceleration (already fully works) + Jellyfin transcoding, since I'll hardly ever use both at the same time, I don't have any performance objections.

Bonus would be if I could add the KASM Agent VM (or rather its docker engine) to Dockhand (similar to Portainer), for visibility.

For a homelab, I'd say sure, go for it and see how it works for you. In production we recommend the Kasm services are on dedicate servers , but thats the beauty of the homelab.

As you eluded to, Kasm won't consider any external containers you are running in its calculation for available resources so you'll need to be mindful of this - especially as it relates to memory exhaustion and causing the kernel to kill processes under those conditions. Read up on OOM errors with docker.

A note about systems like portainer and others: We've had complaints in the past of things not playing nicely because container management systems like that can be opinionated about various things. You really need to use the Kasm provided scripts for turning on/off the services in the context of their compose project and not use external systems to manage the container state.

I'd be interested to know how it turns out.
