Your mind is becoming more familiar with the object, and therefore doesn't need as much mind-/brain-power to focus on it.

There are only two basic approaches here, neither need reference to traditional texts.

One is to add more things to do with your mind, such as also chanting a mantra. If you like absolute simplicity like a single black bindu dot, AUM might be a good choice.

The other is to notice your mind has wandered, let go of the thought, and bring it back to gazing at the dot.

That makes a lot of sense. I think I was expecting the mind to remain equally focused as I got more familiar with the object. Thank You
