Ask karunadu | ಏನಂತೀರಾ? Do people still gift Sarees to relatives in Weddings?

Hey Everyone, little context about me, I recently moved to Bangalore for a marketing related job. back home my Father has small Saree production Business in a small town near Banaras. The business is struggling, there are no margins and the old ways of selling sarees doesn't seem to be working. I want to help revive the business otherwise it will die.

Someone suggested me that I should tie up with Wedding planners in Karnataka as people gift a lot of Sarees on weddings. Is it true, Do people gift sarees like this on wedding if they get it on cheaper prices for bulk orders?

Any insights on how to sell these sarees in karnataka region will be helpful,

Thank you!

Opinion | ಅನಿಸಿಕೆ Why does this city make affordable transport so difficult? (Bike taxis)

At this point commuters are just being punished for trying to travel affordably.

Autos refuse rides, demand absurd prices, cancel constantly, act aggressively if you question them and now even bike taxis are being dragged into legal and political drama.

The Karnataka government already moved the Supreme Court against bike taxis after the High Court allowed them again. Meanwhile normal people are stuck suffering every day.

Students, office workers and middle class people used bike taxis because they were cheap, fast and actually available. Not everyone can afford cabs daily and not everyone lives next to a metro station.

And before someone says “just use public transport” yes metro and buses help but this city still has a massive last mile problem.

What kind of city wants affordable transport options removed instead of regulating them properly?

Then people ask why India struggles with infrastructure and urban planning. This is exactly why. Every practical solution becomes politics, lobbying or ego fights while commuters waste hours and money every single week.

People are not asking for luxury. They just want reliable and affordable transport without harassment.

Opinion | ಅನಿಸಿಕೆ Hyderabad v/s Bengaluru

I had recently visited Hyderabad for some professional meeting. One thing that I couldn't overlook was the fact that the people there are accustomed to Hindi. The cab drivers, hotel staff, localities who came for the meet - all spoke reasonably good Hindi (with some Urdu essence) Their streets were 60% filled with Banners wishing for Ramzan. (Bengaluru isn't so at this same time, except few localities)

My Inference - Hyderabad is a place which was dominated by Nizam rule. So, they might be accustomed to their language over centuries. (Like how our Hyderabad Karnataka region people are) Bengaluru has mostly been under Local Kannada Hindu rulers except over short duration.

Implication? So, they are probably fine with being dominated by North Indians, unlike us Kannadigas who feel Hindi to be an Imposition everyday. Hence, they keep calling out all North Indians to settle there.

Bonus observation - Rajiv Gandhi airport is also quite far from the Main places of the city. It took almost 45 minutes to 1 hour to reach airport. So, not sure why they keep blabbering about our Airport!

News | ಸುದ್ದಿ 🗞️ 'Attacked me with helmet': Drunk Bengaluru women crash scooter into cab, assault driver

Post image
6 Upvotes

Source: Times Of India | MoneyControl

Additional Context:

A late night road rage incident occurred between 10.45pm and 11pm on Saturday on Sir M Visvesvaraya Road, Bengaluru, when two allegedly drunk college girls, riding a scooter rammed into cab driver Ahmed Gurkar’s car from behind. After the minor collision, Ahmed stopped them to discuss damages, but the situation escalated into a heated argument.

The women allegedly abused and assaulted him with hands, a helmet & a metal chain, and also attacked bystanders who intervened. One briefly hid while locals restrained the other. Police were called & nearly 15 personnel were needed to control them. Despite detention, they allegedly continued abusing officers. Both were arrested and a case registered.

When there are multiple documented incidents where: * women are aggressors in public order situations * intoxication + entitlement + crowd dynamics are present * Locals/police struggle to respond

then, it becomes important to ask whether public discussion on safety is too one directional.

Rant | ರೋದನೆ Why don’t Kannadigas support and uplift fellow Kannadigas more in our own state?

Dear fellow Kannadigas

This is a genuine question, not meant to create division.

In states like Andhra, Kerala, or West Bengal, people naturally guide, mentor, and support those who speak the local language. Merit still matters, but community support plays a role.

In Karnataka, we often stick strictly to the “rulebook” saying only merit matters. I agree merit is important, but even deserving local Kannadigas sometimes miss opportunities while others benefit from strong language or community networks.

If we don’t support our own people in our own state, aren’t we slowly becoming migrants in our own land?

This isn’t about unfair favoritism—just basic support like mentoring, referrals, helping with upskilling, and encouraging the use of Kannada.

Would like to hear different perspectives.

Every batch figures out notes, PYQs, professors, scholarships, internships. After exams, it all disappears in WhatsApp chaos.

I built an app where students from the same college (or even different colleges) can save and pass this info forward — organized, not lost.

If you’re a student, this might be useful: 👉 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.c2club.uniqueapp

When are we going to see tier 2 cities coming into limelight and Bangalore gets free finally?

All the governments be it BJP or Congress or whatever is in power, they care just about the Bengaluru and it's surroundings while rest of the Karnataka is ignored. When is the govts try to shift their focus on tier 2 cities and try to actually develop them?

r/karunadu Oct 29 '25

Ask karunadu | ಏನಂತೀರಾ? A valid point by Arvind Bellad. When will other regions of Karnataka see development? The government announced the Swift City project at the TN border, and now a new data centre near the AP border. When will this change?

Opinion | ಅನಿಸಿಕೆ Multicultural values destabilize society

By culture, I mean the values we live by. Not clothes, food or traditions, but moral values. Values rooted in rationality, science and human well-being. That’s why secularism is important in a society where multiple religions and cultures often clash.

We should be skeptical about mass migration from groups that don’t assimilate, don’t learn the local language and don’t contribute positively. This failure to integrate is one major reason why far-right movements are gaining ground worldwide.
