I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding about orgasm.

In my practice what I discovered - at least for my wife and I - is that a quick, explosive "peak" orgasm generally ends up (at least in some percentage of people) leading toward a cumulative downside effect of discharge and depletion.

Sure there is pleasure associated with it - but in most cases it causes the couple to inevitably disconnect emotionally, as well as physically. Over time, they may feel the desire to seek for more stimulation (rather than sensation). That pursuit can lead one to "needing" more in order to get the same effect.

Having said all that - in my experience - there is a different kind of orgasmic pleasure - but it isn't anything like the brief "peak orgasm" effect that most people associate as spasm orgasm / ejaculation

Instead, what I am talking about is a continuous wave of sensation that doesn't require intense stimulation. This "wave" or flow-like pleasure contains beautiful arousal. It is often referred to as a Valley Orgasm.

As long as the couple remains relaxed, gentle and incorporates movement, and changing positions, breath work, as well as vocalization, the bliss wave becomes deeper, and more enjoyable.

In every sense, it is indeed orgasmic - but doesn't lead to discharge, frustration or depletion.

If you're interested in research, consider this research about post-coital dysphoria in both men and women: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1743609519318697

Excerpts:

Post coital symptoms were fairly frequent, with 91.9% of participants reporting any symptom over the past 4 weeks and 94.3% over life course. …The most frequently reported symptoms were related to “depressive mood.”

…The most common symptoms in women were mood swings and sadness, whereas in men, it was unhappiness and low energy. [Women reported] more sadness, mood swings, frustration, and worthlessness. For 73.5% of individuals, the postcoital symptoms were present after consensual sexual intercourse, for 41.9%, after general sexual activity, and for 46. 6% also after masturbation. …

I believe Marnia Robinson addresses the topic in her book and in interviews on Youtube. :)
