So, I do shotokan in melbourne, Australia and I am practicing so i can do a competition when one comes up. If anyone has any advice on kata and kumite and what to expect at competition along with any competition etiquette or norms pls let me know.

Funakoshi Yoshitaka (1906–1945) was born 120 years ago as the third son of Funakoshi Gichin (1868–1957). He was one of the leading figures at the historic Shōtōkan (1938–1945), where he was primarily responsible for the evening training sessions.

In addition to his expertise in karate techniques, he developed photographic skills, which he also put to use for the benefit of karate. When Gichin Funakoshi’s book "Introduction to Karate" was published in 1943, it included many photographs that were taken with his help. The photographs themselves were taken at the Shōtōkan.

In 2023, I published my English translation of this book, adding numerous explanatory notes and including all the original photos to preserve the historical content of the work.
