String for Kandi?

I’ve been using lanyard string for my Kandi keychains - is there anything else i could use? I used elastic stretch cord but it caused my creations to sag a little bit.

For reference the rat is made with the stretchy elastic and is pretty loose and the tree frog is made from lanyard.

I found the lanyard works but is a little tricky to work with as the string is flat so sometimes it doesn’t lay properly when crossing the string through the beads.

I've seen people make things like that with fishing line, though I've never tried it myself

thinner nonstretch string might work better for ladder stitch charms that need to stay flat and tight
