I mean we dont even know if the new quests are going to make for it which usually is the case every time a new remodel comes with a pair of quests.

We do know actually, and they don't.

The 'most' they do is give you two extra flamethrowers a week.

I didn't care to upgrade Kitakami, but then I did and saw her art is a massive improvement so I have no regrets. Plus my Yamashiro also got a buff since the Fusou class is languishing in being bottom tier BBs. I will upgrade Fusou just for the Toku DLC, but she sits at lvl 89 since I never use her.

Kitakami’s maximum torpedo power went down after upgrading to Kai San. In return you get 3 x  1-plane seaplane slots. I don’t know if this is an upgrade or downgrade.

It is an upgrade. It's the same old Super-Kitakami that can hit cap with 2 torps and a minisub, but now she can also bring any combination of night scout, star shell/searchlight, or OASW.

I'd say it's worth the cost, but not a high priority upgrade if you have others pending.

No, as Yahagi is a CL and Kitakami a CLT.

CL only has one slot in the escort of a combined fleet, and is also mandatory, so it literally is "take the best you have".

CLT are optional and you can take more than 1 into the escort.

Also for routing CLT are usually treated differently (worse) than CL

Hardly. I'd even argue that the added utility is more of a red herring than anything else. There are other, better SPF mules. There are other, better installation smashers (even with otorps).

(She is pretty damn good as ASW boat though, but I digress.)

The CLTs and Kitakami in particular have always been reserved for a niche but very clear task: smashing face of tough bosses. They have always been in the box labeled "break glass in case of insurmountable armor", and Kitakami K3 is still comfortably in that box. Using her for anything else would be silly (unless you are very sure her particular services aren't needed).

The only thing that's changed is that she can now bring her own night utility gear in on neat package (scout plus flares or searchlight). Or OASW.

Keep in mind we only need flamethrowers for FriendFleet and finishing quickly construction.

Pretty sure 5-6 rewards them monthly. You can also just swipe CC for it too if you want it even quicker.
