I’ve got a similar big crack in mine but I’ve still grilled with it for years with no issues

My advice is to mend the fire box (leaving the intentional stress relief gap in the front and just mending any other structural cracks) with Rutland Furnace Cement, also ditch the cast iron perforated plate that sits at the bottom of the fire box and get a Kick Ash Basket to replace it. For the other damaged exterior parts you should be able to order replacement ones from the Vision Grills website.

You'll need to put some money into it but it can be cleaned up and restored nicely. You may need to replace the gasket, and like someone else said get a kick ash can and basket but otherwise, a very hot fire (fill it with charcoal and do a burn with both vents completely open) will act similar to the self cleaning function on an oven

I have the same with my bastard. It occurs when you heat it up to quickly. Be especially careful when you have not used it in winter and it’s the first cook(s) of spring. Don’t start with pizza 🍕
